Saint Francis Falls to LIU-Brooklyn

The Saint Francis swimming team dropped a 140-121 decision on Saturday afternoon at LIU Brooklyn. The Red Flash are now 5-5 overall and 1-2 in NEC conference meets.

Sophomore Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) continued an outstanding Fall with wins in the 200-yard Freestyle and 500-yard Freestyle. The Bremen, Ind. native posted a time of 1:54.19 in the 200-yard Freestyle. In the 500-yard Freestyle, Lafferty finished with a pace of 5:08.68.

Fellow sophomore Emma Karrell won the 1000-yard Freestyle, with a time of 10:51.87, nearly 14 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Karell also recorded top-three finished in the 200-yard Breaststroke and 200-yard IM. She placed third with a time of 2:27.89 in the 200-yard Breaststroke and second in the 200-yard IM with a pace of 2:13.51. 

Junior Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) earned a pair of top-two finishes. She placed second in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 2:01.66 and second in the 500-yard Freestyle with a time of 5:23.51. Senior Sara Dieterich (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) also finished second in the 100-yard Backstroke, with a time of 1:01.13, and 200-yard Backstroke, with a pace of 2:12.71.

Sophomore Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) collected a trio of third place finishes in the 100-yard Backstroke (1:01.60), 100-yard Freestyle (54.96) and 100-yard Butterfly (1:01.00).

Catherine Rogers (Nokesville, Va./Seton School) placed second in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:07.45, while junior Katelynn Happney (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester ) finished second in the 200-yard Butterfly in 2:15.80. Jessica Reilly placed second in the 100-yard Freestyle with a pace of 54.47.

The Red Flash won the 200-yard Medley Relay as Lafferty, McLean, Reilly and Rogers combined for a time of 1:48.49. SFU also took second in the 400-yard Freestyle with a team of Karell, Lafferty, Reilly and Tiberino finishing in 3:37.34.

Saint Francis is next in action on Saturday, November 14 as it hosts Wagner at 1 p.m. for another NEC meet.
