St. Andrews Women Beat Greensboro for First-Ever Win

The St. Andrews University women's swim team had a great effort on Friday afternoon as they dominated the Div. III Greensboro College Pride to pick up their first-ever team win in school history 130-78 at O'Herron Pool in Laurinburg.

The Lady Knights were led by sophomore Tarryn Holmes, senior Triniti Counter, and freshman Aliah Maginley as they each won individual races in the early part of the meet. The second half of the meet SAU was led by first place triumphs from juniors Xiomara Getrouw, Ira Vogt, and sophomore Choolwe Lourens.

Counter took titles in the 200 yard Butterfly (2:12) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:28) to set a season best time in the free while also unofficially winning the 200 Ind. Medley in 2:17. Maginley then took titles in the 1000 yard free (12:10) and 100 yard free (1:02.8) as she dominated the competition. Holmes then blew away the competition in the 50 yard Free swimming a time of 25.6 to outdistance herself by three seconds over teammate Vogt. Holmes also swam the best time in the 50 Fly as well (27.9).

However, Vogt came back to win the 200 yard breast in 2:42 while Lourens won the 200 Back in 2:28. Getrouw was then victorious in the 50 yard Back in 28.6 seconds edging Lourens by two seconds. Freshman Hailey James also took the title in the 200 yard free in 2:17.

St. Andrews also won the 200 yard medley relay in 1:58 led by Lourens, Vogt, Holmes, and Maginley.

The Lady Knights improve to 1-3 on the season while Greensboro drops to 1-2.

The Knights are next competing in the NAIA Brenau (Ga.) Invitational Nov. 20-21.
