Colgate Sweeps Holy Cross

Seniors Des Cairns and Morgan Cohara set pool marks in the 100 back to spark Colgate Swimming & Diving to a dual meet sweep of Patriot League foe Holy Cross Sunday.

The men posted a 174-124 triumph while the women were victorious by a 170-116 margin.

The win gave the men their first dual meet victory since the 2011-12 season. The women, meanwhile, remained undefeated on the season as they improved to 3-0.

Cohara set her third pool mark of the season with her victory in the 100 back, posting a time of 58.08. Cairns, swimming immediately after Cohara, recorded his first pool mark of the year, touching the wall with a time of 52.21. His time broke the pool mark that had stood since the 2003 campaign.

Paced by the pool marks from Cairns and Cohara, the Raiders combined to take first in 21 of 32 events during the dual meet.

Sophomore diver Tommy Fretz picked up his first dual meet victory of his career, turning in a finals score of 235.94 in the 1 meter competition.

Both teams return to action Oct. 31 with a dual meet at Lehigh. The men’s meet also includes NJIT.
