Florida Tech Tops SCAD

After a pair of tough defeats to open the season, Florida Tech men’s swimming got off the schneid Saturday morning at the Panther Aquatic Center, topping Savannah College of Art & Design 123-82.
 
Unfortunately, the meet wasn’t as successful for the Panther women, who were upended 155-49 by SCAD.
 
Yagoh Kubagawa won a race for the third time in two days, touching first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:34.37). Kubagawa also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with an NCAA B-Cut time of 4:36.46.
 
Emanuele Rossi took the crown in the 200 free (1:42.87), while Nir Barnea snagged first in the 50 free (21.22). Barnea was also the fastest man in the 100 fly (51.62), while Thomas Steenberg won the 100 free (47.27).
 
Brian Dumont registered his second event win of the young season, making the final touch in the 100-yard breaststroke at 59.80. The meet came to an end with an FIT win, as Kubagawa, Emanuele Rossi, Ferruccio Rossi and Steenberg took the 800 free relay (6:54.99).
 
For the Panther women, Julie Coen, Schelli Linz, Trista Phelps and Liana Soileau finished runner-up in the 400 medley relay at 4:09.64. Lauren Suarez grabbed second in the 50 free (25.22), while Shelby Pearce was second fastest in the 200 IM (2:17.69).
 
Linz garnered the final second-place finish for FIT, taking second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.49.
 
The Panthers will next compete in their lone road meet of the season, travelling to Boca Raton, Florida to take on Division I Florida Atlantic.
