San Diego Falls to UCLA

The Toreros wrapped up their second meet in as many days on Saturday. A day after beating Vanderbilt and Oregon State, the Toreros fell to the UCLA Bruins at the USD Sportscenter Pool.

USD had strong performances from Danielle Taylor for the second straight day. Taylor, a freshman, won the 50 free with a 24.34. She also placed second in the 100 free (52.88), being edged out by just over a tenth of a second.

The day started with a strong relay from Sarah Reierson, Bri Jurries, Taylor and her sister Jackie. They posted a 1:48.70, good enough to finish in second. Mackenna Briggs took second in both the 500 free (5:13.40) and the 200 IM (2:11.35). She added a third in the 1000 free (10:40.24).

Reierson place second in the 100 backstroke (59.81) and the 100 fly (58.85) to add to the point total. Gwen Walter finished third in the 500 free, with a 5:13.49.

Alexa Held and Elizabeth Petty added points off the diving board for the second straight day. Held totaled 182.10 while Petty scored a 132.67. UCLA brought a lot of experience to the deep end of the pool, where sisters Ciara Monahan and Montana Monahan took first and second.

The Toreros will host Loyola Marymount in their next meet on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 12:00 p.m.
