Eastern Illinois Swept by IUPUI

The EIU men’s & women’s swimming teams continued to build as a unit to begin their 2015-16 season. Facing one of the top swimming programs in the Summit League, both squads for Eastern Illinois produced solid performances.

Several members of the men’s swimming team saw improvements in their times. Brandon Robbins and Jake Roberts both saw their times drop in the 200 yard freestyle. Robbins improved by 2.17 as he finished with a time of 1:49.43, while Roberts improved by 0.59 with a time of 1:50.90. Shane Witzki saw his 50 yard freestyle time go down by 0.39 as he finished with a time of 22.23. Leo Garfolo posted a time of 2:07.72 taking 0.82 ticks off his previous time. Brogan O’Doherty also saw an improvement in his 100 yard backstroke time as he took off 2.24 from his previous time to finish at 51.90.

Several swimmers on the women’s side saw their times drop as well. Martee Grainger started the event off in the 200 yard medley as she took off 0.13 from her prior time to finish at 29.94. All three swimmers for EIU in the 50 yard freestyle saw improvements as Kaylee Morris finished at 24.77, improving by 0.32, Bridgett Bowen with a time of 27.92, deducted 0.71, and Jessie Freudenthaler posted a time of 28.22, improving by 0.60. Bowen also improved her 100 yard fly time by nearly three seconds as she finished with a time of 1:07.26. Fallyn Schwake took a second and a half off of her previous 100 yard freestyle time with a final time of 59.05. Niki Beringer rounded out the improved times for the EIU women as she took off 0.41 on her 100 yard backstroke time, to finish at 1:06.57.

The EIU men’s & women’s swimming teams can be seen in action again on October 31, as they travel to Evansville.
