Denver Women Down CSU

The University of Denver women’s swim team defeated Colorado State University on Friday in Fort Collins, Colo. after totaling 189 points over CSU’s 111 points.
 
“We have always been challenged to win on the road at Colorado State, so I’m glad to start on the road with a win,” head coach Brian Schrader said. “We had a lot of good swims today but I would have to say Amanda Sanders, Morgan McCormick, Johanna Roas, and Zoe Huddleston all had multiple wins and helped set our team up for a strong win.”
 
Roas won the 200 yard freestyle event (1:54.21) and the 50 yard fly (26.09), while Sanders won the 50 yard breaststroke (30.29) and the 200 yard breast (2:18.82). McCormick placed first in the 200 yard backstroke (2:00.65) and the 100 yard IM (58.51). Huddleston finished first in the 50 yard free (24.08) and 100 yard free (52.86).
 
McCormick, Sanders, Roas and Heidi Bradley teamed up to win the 400 yard medley relay (3:48.97), while Roas, Huddleston, Lauren Moden and Morgan Wice-Roslin placed first in the 200 yard free relay (1:35.35). Freshman Karly Haraden also picked up her first win with the program after finishing in first place in the 1000 yard freestyle event (10:34.71).
 
The women will host the University of Nebraska-Omaha tomorrow at noon at El Pomar.

 

Colorado State

Emily Williams, Ariana Milone and Jess Shepard all won events as the Colorado State swimming and diving squad fell at Moby Pool to Denver, 189-111, on Friday evening.
 
The Rams swept both diving events on the day, with Emily Williams winning her first event of the season in the 1-Meter, posting a score of 262.65. Ariana Milone took second with a 250.80. Two divers swapped places in the 3-Meter event, with Milone winning with a score of 329.93 and Williams taking the runner-up spot with 246.90.
 
Jess Shepard captured a win in the 50 Backstroke, winning by .02 with a time of 26.75. Tonicia Thomas took third in the event.
 
Multiple Rams took second-place finishes. Cristina Bassani placed second in the 50 Breaststroke, Megan Lloyd was second in the 200 Butterfly, Katie Kicklighter took second in the 50 and 100 Freestyle, Thomas was runner-up in the 200 Backstroke, Jenna Beaury was second in the 200 Breaststroke and Karin Roh placed second in the 50 Butterfly. CSU’s A teams also took second in both the 400 Medley Relay and the 200 Free Relay.
 
CSU will be back in action at Wyoming on Nov. 6.
