Western Illinois Falls to Nebraska-Omaha

 In their first road meet of the 2015 campaign, the Western Illinois women's swimming and diving team fell on Saturday (Oct. 9) 159-127 at Omaha.
 
The Leathernecks relay teams were sharp, with the quartet of Lizzie Hollopeter, Sarah Rosenhauer, Natalie Cumbie and Marissa Purdum winning the 200-medley relay in 1:54.87. Purdum, Alli DeWane, Erica Hagen and Hollopeter later won the 200-free relay in 1:43.17, with the squad comprised off Amanda Schaefer, Andie Villez, Amy Borgstede and Hannah Fisher coming in second in 1:49.09.
 
Western Illinois dominated both the 200-breast and 200-IM with Hagen (2:34.47), Villez (2:36.73) and Rosenhauer (2:37.45) sweeping the top three spots in the former. In the 200-IM, Rosenhauer (2:26.62), Cumbie (2:27.02) and Fisher (2:27.81) recorded the top three finishes.
 
The Leathernecks also turned in the top two slots in the one-meter dive. Melanie Pearson earned first with a score of 162.90, just ahead of teammate Nathalie Castro's 160.05.
 
Hollopeter turned in a strong meet, earning a first place finish in the 100-back in 1:01.64. She also recorded a second-place touch in the 200-back with a time of 2:13.61.
 
Western compiled a number of second-place touches. Schaefer reached the wall in the 500-free in 5:24.17, prior to her second-place finish in the 1000-free in 11:02.56. Hagen's 1:10.50 time got her second in the 100-breast while Borgstede finished second in the 200-fly at 2:25.96. Purdum was just out-touched to record a second-place spot in the 50-free in 25.70.

Both the Western Illinois men's and women's teams will be in action on Saturday (Oct. 10), swimming at South Dakota at 1 p.m.
