Assumption's Weber Wins Third Consecutive Holy Cross Pentahlon

Senior captain Victoria Weber (Augusta, Maine / Cony) captured her third consecutive Holy Cross Pentathlon title on Saturday at the Plourde Pool in the 2015-16 season opener. Weber led the Hounds, who claimed the top 12 spots out of 30 swimmers in the event.

Weber posted a final time of 5:12.58 and nabbed the top spot after finishing first in three of the five events counted for individual scoring. The senior earned the gold in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.89), the 100 backstroke (1:00.82) and in the 100 IM, in which she broke the Plourde Pool record with her time of 1:02.40.

Sophomore Niamh Morgan (Bettystown, Ireland / Sacred Heart School) finished second overall with her time of 5:19.85. Morgan claimed the silver in three of the five events, two of which were on the heels of Weber. Morgan's second-place finishes came in the 100 backstroke (1:01.90), 100 breaststroke (1:12.27) and in the 100 IM (1:07.74).

Freshman Morgan Nicholls (East London, South Africa / Clarendon) claimed third place in her first college meet with her total time of 5:24.35. Nicholls tallied four top-five finishes including two bronze medals in the 100 freestyle (56.78) and the 100 IM (1:05.61), behind Weber and Morgan.

The Hounds also finished first as a team in both the 200 freestyle relay and the 200 yard medley relay events on the day.

Weber has finished in the top two in the Holy Cross Pentathlon since her inaugural season in 2012-13. As a freshman in 2012, Weber claimed the silver before dominating the gold for the last three seasons.

Weber's record in the 100 IM (1:02.40) breaks the time of 1:04.68 set by last year's senior captain Katherine Medeiros in 2011.

Last season, the Hounds claimed nine out of 10 of the top spots, excluding second. Weber claimed the victory and Morgan finished sixth, behind three additional, current Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds return to action for their first dual-meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 10, as they travel to Siena for a 1:30 p.m. start.
