Simon Fraser University swimmer Gabriel Lee played a role in breaking two records on Sunday as the Clan won eight of 11 events on the final day of the Clan Cup at the Margaret & Paul Savage Pool at SFU.
Over the three day Clan Cup event Simon Fraser won 26 of 37 events and set six new meet records. Lee had a hand in setting four of the records.
On Sunday, Lee broke his own record in the 200 backstroke shaving two tenths of a second off the old mark he set last year. Lee won the race in 1:59.82, more than 12 seconds in front of the next closest competitor.
Lee also swam the anchor leg for SFU’s record-setting 400 freestyle relay team. In the final race of the meet, the Clan foursome of Adrian VanderHelm, Justin Kiedrzyn, Colton Petersen and Lee easily out-paced Whitman College to win in 3:21.67, breaking the old mark of 3:23.15.
On the opening day of the meet Lee swam the third leg of SFU’s 400 medley relay team’s record-setting swim and the first leg of the 200 medley relay team’s record-setting win.
Sunday, Simon Fraser also received wins by MacKenzie Hamill in the men’s 1500 freestyle (15:26.07), Maran Kokoszka in the women’s 200 backstroke (2:17.88), Robyn Lee in the women’s 100 freestyle (58.38), Meagha Frenks in the women’s 200 breaststroke (2:34.27), and Keenan Elliott in the men’s 200 breaststroke (2:17.67).
The Clan also captured the women’s 400 freestyle relay.
