Bentley Sweeps Brandeis

Bentley Men

Nine different members of the Bentley University men’s swimming and diving team, including senior diver Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS), won individual events as the Falcons cruised to a 191-97 win over Brandeis University Friday night at the Dana Center pool.
                
Bridge was a double-winner as he took the one-meter with a 299.17 and the three-meter with a 268.49.
                
In freestyle events, Bentley’s winners were senior Nick Toselli (Barrington, R.I./Barrington HS) in the 50 (22.73), junior Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS) in the 200 (1:49.39) and sophomore Aidan Karam (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) in the 500 (4:59.33).
                
The backstroke winners were junior Matt Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown HS) (100, 57.27) and senior Timothy Connolly (Dorchester/Boston Latin Academy) (200, 2:03.13). Sophomore Jonny Boains (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) captured the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.91, and the 200 breast went to freshman Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS) in 2:23.09.
                
Rounding out the list of individual winners for the 2-3 Falcons was freshman Matt Gwozdecke (Bristol, Conn./St. Paul Catholic HS) in the 100 butterfly (54.01).
                
Connolly and McGeary combined with senior Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) and junior Colin McCarthy (Glastonbury, Conn./Northwest Catholic HS) to capture the 400 medley relay in 3:45.53. In the 200 free, the Falcons prevailed in 1:31.36 with McCarthy and Toselli joined by sophomore Christopher Vukas (Randolph, N.J./Randolph ) and senior Owen Karl (Rochester, N.Y./ Brighton HS).
                
Bentley will be back in action Dec. 5-6 at the WPI Gompei Invitational.


Bentley Women

Sophomore Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS) was a triple-winner as Bentley University swam past Brandeis University, 191-91, in women’s college swimming Friday night at the Dana Center pool.
                
Niemiec led a 1-2-3 Bentley finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.24, was first to the wall in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.55) and completed her night by winning the 400 individual medley with her time of 4:45.30 second best in the Northeast-10 Conference this season.
                
Niemiec’s three wins accounted for a quarter of the Falcons’ victories as the home team took 12 of the 16 events in the match-up of crosstown rivals.
                
Junior Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/Tahanto Regional HS) was also unbeaten against the Judges. She powered a 1-2-3 Falcon sweep in the 100 breaststroke with a winning time of 1:11.17 and outswam the competition in the 500 free, finishing in 5:26.63. McGahie also anchored Bentley’s winning 200 free relay team (1:44.82).
                
Senior Courtney Stone (Andover/Andover HS) swept the diving, recording winning scores of 240.91 from the one-meter board and 248.22 from the three-meter.
                
Kelly Culkin (Avon, Conn./Avon HS), also a senior, posted the Northeast-10’s fastest 100 butterfly time, 57.29 seconds, during a second-place finish in the event.
                
Bentley’s other individual winners were freshman Kate Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS) in the 100 backstroke (1:00.92, 4th best NE-10), sophomore Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron HS) in the 200 fly (2:18.43), sophomore Jess Chen (Darien, Conn./Darien HS) in the 100 free (57.50), freshman Melissa Viator (Lubbock, Texas/Lubbock HS) in the 200 back (2:13.91).
                
Freshman Melissa Damphousse (Marshfield/Marshfield HS) was part of both winning relays, the 200 free and the 400 medley (4:23.22). She teamed with Culkin, Kaduboski and senior Meg Pernsteiner (Highland Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) in the 400 medley, and with McGahie, Chen and freshman Hannah Rauch (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park HS) in the 200 free.
