Texas A&M Women

Texas A&M sophomore Bethany Galat reserved another spot at the NCAA Championship as the Aggies prospered on day two of the Art Adamson Invitational at the Student Recreation Natatorium.
 
Texas A&M put three swimmers in the championship final 400 IM. For the second day in a row, sophomore Bethany Galat punched a ticket for NCAA’s, posting an ‘A’ cut 4:04.06 for second place. Right behind her were freshman Sydney Pickrem in third at 4:08.82 and sophomore Lisa Bratton in fourth at 4:08.92, both NCAA ‘B’ cuts.
 
The Aggies recorded four NCAA ‘B’ cuts in the 100 fly, with sophomore Béryl Gastaldello winning the event in 51.68. Junior Sarah Gibson placed third in the event in 52.35. Two consolation finalists also recorded ‘B’ cuts: senior Claire Brandt (53.94) and sophomore Laura Norman (54.10).
 
The 200 free featured another four Aggie NCAA ‘B’ cuts. Freshman Claire Rasmus finished second in 1:45.91 with Sarah Gibson not far behind in fourth place (1:46.23). Meredith Oliver finished in sixth with a time of 1:46.65. In the consolation final, freshman Lexie Lupton swam the race in 1:47.03 for a ‘B’ cut. Sophomore Kristin Malone placed eighth in the championship final with a time of 1:48.18.
 
Sophomore transfer Jorie Caneta led the way as five Aggies swam NCAA ‘B’ cuts in the 100 breast. Caneta finished second in 59.37 followed by Galat in third (1:00.33). Junior Sycerika McMahon finished in sixth with a 1:01.52. Both Malone (1:00.67) and sophomore Esther Gonzalez (1:01.67) recorded ‘B’ cuts in the consolation final.
 
Gastaldello recorded her second ‘B’ cut on the day in the 100 back as did three more Aggie swimmers besides her. Gastaldello finished second in 52.31 while Bratton swam into fifth place with a 53.06. Brandt (53.53) and Norman (54.85) finished in seventh and eighth respectively.
 
Junior Madison Hudkins continued her strong season with a first place finish in 1 mtr diving with a score of 317.90. Sophomore Zoe Alaniz placed fourth, scoring a 262.60.
 
Texas A&M started and ended the meet with strong relays. In the 200 medley relay, the team of Gastaldello, Gibson, McMahon, and Lupton posted an NCAA ‘A’ cut 1:37.44 for second place in the event. The Aggies’ second team of the event which finished in sixth with a time of 1:39.97 consisted of Caneta, Brandt, senior Victoria Salinas, and Malone. In the 800 free relay, the team of Gibson, Lupton, Rasmus, and Oliver finished in second with a time of for an NCAA ‘B’ cut 7:08.84. The team of Malone, Pickrem, McMahon, and senior Colleen Konetzke finished in 7:13.98 for fifth place.
 
The Aggies will begin the third and final day of the Art Adamson Invitational tomorrow Nov. 20 with preliminaries at 9:30 a.m. followed by finals at 6:00 p.m.


Texas A&M Men

The Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving team leads the pack with 584.5 total points after day two of the Art Adamson Invitational.
 
Sophomore Jonathan Tybur began the individual events for the Aggies in the 400 IM, placing seventh with a time of 4:00.84. In the consolation final, freshman Angel Martinez made an NCAA ‘B’ cut by swimming the event in 3:53.56.
 
Junior Turker Ayar recorded the second ‘B’ cut of the night for the Aggies, swimming the 100 fly in 48.22 for fifth place. Not far behind in seventh place, freshman Mateo Gonzalez swam the event in 48.70.
 
Freshman Martinez swam the 200 free in 1:39.21 for sixth place followed by senior Mateo Muzek in seventh (1:39.21). In the bonus final, senior Antoine Marc recorded an NCAA ‘B’ cut, swimming the event in 1:37.61.
 
Sophomore Mauro Castillo recorded the fourth and final ‘B’ cut of the night for the Aggies in the 100 breast, placing second in the event with a time of 53.76. Tybur placed sixth after swimming the event in 55.63.
 
Senior Alexandros Theocharidis swam the 100 back in 48.82 for fifth place.
 
Freshman Sam Thornton recorded the Aggies’ first dive over 400 points, a 406.55 for second place. Sophomore Tyler Henschel finished in third with a 386.00 while junior Zachary Stockton placed sixth with a 309.45.
 
The 200 medley relay team of Castillo, senior Jacob Wallace, freshman Mateo Gonzalez, and junior Jacob Gonzales finished in fifth place with a time of 1:28.80. In the 800 free relay, the team consisting of Marc, Muzek, Martinez, and freshman Connor Long placed fifth in 6:36.85.

 

LSU

Junior Logan Rysemus led the LSU swimming and diving team with victories in the 100 fly and 100 back on the second day of the Art Adamson Invitational at Texas A&M’s Student Recreation Center.
 
"Logan cashed in on two great this evening, and he is in a great spot time wise midway through the season," LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer said. "Tomorrow is a big day and we have had to some long sessions at the poll. We really need to step up in the morning."
 
The LSU men finished first and second in the 100 fly. In addition to Rysemus’ victory, senior Alex Linge finished second with a time of 47.13. Devin McCaffrey touched the wall third in the consolation final (48.93) and Harrison Jones finished seventh in the bonus final (50.37).
 
Sophie Weber opened the individual events for the women by finishing eighth in the championship final of the 400 IM (4:19.80). Freshman Lauren Thompson finished fourth in the consolation final (4:22.92) and Jessie James finished fifth in the bonus final (4:27.33).
 
In the 100 fly, Kara Kopcso touched the wall fourth in the championship final with a time of 52.47. Leah Troskot and Kate Zimmer swam in the consolation final and finished third and fifth respectively. Gabrielle Pick rounded out the group of Lady Tigers in the event by finishing eighth in the bonus final. 
 
Megan Cox finished seventh in the 200 free championship final with a time of 1:46.99. Stacey Stanfield finished fourth in the bonus final with a career-best time of 1:49.84. 
 
Colleen O’Neil touched the wall seventh in the championship final of the 100 breast (1:01.58). Taryn MacKenzie added a fourth-place finish in the consolation final (1:03.11) and Summer Spradley finished fourth in the bonus final (1:03.48).
 
In the final women’s individual event of the night, the 100 back, Danielle Stirrat took first in the consolation final with a time of 54.03. Caley Oquist finished third (54.86), Kate Zimmer finished sixth (55.57) and Makenna Wilson finished seventh (55.77). Freshman Haylee Knight also added a third-place finish overall in the bonus final with a time of 55.53.
 
Brandon Goldman led the Tigers by finishing second in the championship final of the 400 IM. His time of 3:50.56 was enough for third in school history. Freshman Alarii Levreault-Lopez also finished third in the bonus final with a time of 3:58.84.
 
Jake Markham provided a strong swim in the championship final of the 200 free and finished in fifth place with a time of 1:38.59. Braydon Bergeron also finished second in the bonus final with a time of 1:39.63.
 
In the 100 breast championship final, Silas Dejean finished fifth (54.69). Garrett House and Harry Ackland added third-place finishes in the consolation final and bonus final respectively.
 
With Rysemus leading the men in the 100 back championship final, Thomas Smith finished eighth with a time of 50.51. Will Arthur finished seventh in the consolation final and Tyler Harper finished fifth in the bonus final.
 
In the relay events, the women’s team of Oquist, O’Neil, Kopcso and Troskot finished third overall with a time of 1:38.98 in the 200-medley relay. The team of Kopcso, Stirrat, Cox and Dabney finished fourth in the 800 free relay (7:12.72).
 
The 200-medley relay men’s team that finished second with a time of 1:27.07 consisted of Rysemus, Dejean, Linge and Joao Mescolote. The team of Linge, Markham, Bergeron and Arthur closed out the night with a fourth-place finish in the 800 free relay (6:34.49).
 
In the women’s one-meter final, Allie Alter finished fifth with a score of 259.40 and Cassie Weil followed in sixth place with a score of 254.95. In the men’s three-meter final, Andrew Suchla finished in fifth place with a score of 352.50.

 

SMU Men

Bryce Klein continued his diving dominance at the Art Adamson Invitational with a commanding win in the 3-meter dive on night two in College Station, Texas. Klein added the win to a 1-meter victory on night one. Overall, the Mustangs posted three NCAA B standards on Friday as well as clocked seven career-best times.

The sophomore won the event with a total score of 424.60, improving on his preliminary-topping performance by 50.15 points. Klein posted an average round score of 70.77, outdoing his closest opponent by over 18 points for the win.

Klein has already punched his ticket to the NCAA Zone Championship in both the 1- and 3-meter events.

Bartosz Krzyzaniak, Christian Scherubl and Stefan Popov turned in impressive performances, each meeting the NCAA B standard in their respective events. Both Krzyzaniak and Popov also posted career-best times en route to provisional qualification.

Scherubl, a sophomore from Gratwein, Austria, led four Mustangs in the 200 free with a 1:36.83, placing second in the Championship Final. Freshman Lucas Schenke also earned himself a spot in the top final, placing eighth, while junior Matthew Colket and freshman Carson Klein competed in Bonus Finals.

Three other Ponies followed Krzyzaniak’s 48.24 in the 100-yard backstroke, as Sam Straughan, Kianu Kitching and Brandon Norman all competed in finals, with Norman winning a Bonus event.

In the 100-yard breaststroke event, Ziga Cerkovnik won his final with a 56.60, while Gus Duran and Hayden Corley also made appearances in the event.

SMU was also represented by Straughan and freshman Garrett Carson in the 100-yard butterfly.

In relay action, the Mustangs posted an impressive fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as Krzyzaniak, Cerkovnik, Straughan and Scherubl combined for a 1:28.69, while the team of Krzyzaniak, Schenke, Klein and Scherubl were sixth in the 800-yard freestyle with a time of 6:36.95.

 

SMU Women

The South African trio of Marne Erasmus, Tara-Lynn Nicholas and Kirsty McLauchlan led the Mustangs on night two of the Art Adamson Invitational in College Station Texas. Both Erasmus and Nicholas swam in Championship Finals, while McLauchlan won the Consolation Final of the 400-yard individual medley.

Erasmus was one of four Mustangs to swim in finals of the 100-yard butterfly, an event in which she is a two-time NCAA All-American. The junior posted an NCAA B standard 52.82 in the event, which was good for fifth place. Anna Cheesbrough, Tiffany Sudarma and Adri Santa all swam in bonus finals, with Cheesbrough posting a career-best time.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, All-American Nicholas posted the fourth-fastest time of the event, finishing in 1:01.40.

McLauchlan’s season-best 4:19.97 was enough to win the 400 IM Consols, before going on to compete in a bonus final of the 100 breast.

Freestyle specialists Maddie Hoch and Vicky Cunningham occupied spots in the Consolation and Bonus Finals of the 200-yard freestyle, respectively, with Cunningham posting a career-best 1:49.84 and Hoch finishing fifth in Consols.

The final individual event of the evening featured backstrokers Anna Volchkov and Eleonor Lindborg in the 100 distance. Volchkov began her night in the same position on the Mustangs’ 200-yard medley relay team, helping the group of Nicholas, Erasmus and Hannah Rogers to an eighth-place finish with a season-best 1:40.95.

In the second relay of the night, SMU finished seventh overall as Cunningham, Hoch, Santa and Ursa Bezan touched in 7:23.91.

 

Utah

Both Kristian Kron and Bence Kiraly both took first in their respective events while Jordan Anderson crushed the school record in the 400 IM during the second day at the Art Adamson Invitational hosted by Texas A&M. 

“This was a very fun day at the second day at Art Adamson Invitational. We are in a close team battle on the men’s side, I believe we are within about 10 or 12 points of Texas A&M for the lead after being in fourth place yesterday. Our women’s team is in a tight battle for fourth place with Boise State and San Diego State, so it should be a fun atmosphere tomorrow.”

“We had 10 more NCAA consideration cuts and set a pair of school records tonight; Kristin Kron for the men in the 400 IM and Jordan Anderson shattered the school record by four seconds in the 400 IM on the women’s side. I am really excited for tomorrow. Hopefully the men can overcome Texas A&M and the women can have another strong showing."

MEN

Utah’s best performance of the evening occurred in the 400 IM.  Kristian Kron won the event,  setting a school record with a NCAA “B” qualifying time of 3:46.77. Three other Utes, Nolan Rogers (4th, 3:52.79), Ganem Tebet (5th, 3:56.45) and Jay Bolinger (8th, 4:01.73) all reached the finals with Rogers also swimming a “B” qualifying time.

In the consolation final of the event, Cole Avery placed fourth with a time of 3:56.04 while Evan Indahl (3:56.86) and Brandon Deckard (3:59.68) also swam.

In the 200 free, the Utes came out on top once more as Bence Kiraly won with a NCAA “B” qualifying time of 1:36.06. Peter Kotson’s time of 1:40.67 won him the consolation final.

In relay action, the Utes finished second in the 800 free as Kron, Brendan Nguyen, Daniel McArthur and Kiraly narrowly missed out on the top spot with a time of 6:30.03. Utah ale finished third in the 200 medley relay. Paul Ungur, Jack Burton, Scott and Sean Bloore were the swimmers that made up the Utah contingent.

On the board, three Utes competed in the finals with Josiah Purss pacing the contingent in fourth place. Jake Crayne and Connor Cain finished consecutively in seventh and eighth, respectively.

In the 100 back, three Utes reached the final as McArthur had the best finish, placing second (47.72). Ungur was right behind him in third (47.84) while Avery was seventh (49.92). Utah also put three swimmers in the finals of the 100 breast.

Burton was third with a NCAA “B” qualifying time of 53.93 while Keanu Interone (55.72) and Tebet (56.09) rounded out the field. In the consolation final, Brandon Young finished with a time of 57.13

Ungur won the consolation final of the 100 fly, hitting the wall in 48.69. Dave Fraser (48.97) and Scott (49.65) were also in the event.

WOMEN

Jordan Anderson placed sixth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:14.86, as she set a new school record in the event. She also qualified for the U.S. Olympic trials during the morning prelims with a time of 4:52.39.

Teammate Isabella Kearns was third in the consolation final with a time of 4:22.69. Brianna Francis also took part in this event and finished with a time of 4:23.70.

Amanda Casillas had Utah’s highest finish of the evening, placing third in the one-meter dive with a score of 267.10

In the 100 breast Stina Colleou turned in an impressive performance, placing fifth with a NCAA “B” qualifying time of 1:01.47. Genevieve Robertson also reached the final and finished with a NCAA “B” qualifying time of 1:02.05. Francis had a time of 1:04.00 in the consolation final

In other consolation finals, Megan Kawaguchi took second in the 100 back with a time of 54.76 and Petra Soininen swam the 100 fly in 55.14. Jenna Marsh finished with a time of 54.95 in the bonus final of the same event while Hailey Pabst had Utah’s best time in the 200 free, 1:50.86.

In relay action, Maryssa McArthur, Anderson, Dorien Butter and Pabst took eighth in the 800 free with a time of 7:24.73. Kawaguchi, Robertson, Marsh and Gillian St. John were ninth in the 200 medley (1:41.52).

 

Air Force

The Air Force men’s swimming and diving team remains in third place after day two of the Art Adamson Invitational, Friday, Nov. 20, in College Station, Texas. Texas A&M is in first with 600.5 points, while Utah is in second (576), Air Force is third (490),  LSU is fourth place (485), Arizona State (251), SMU (245) and TCU (140.5).

In the first event of the day, the Falcons won the 200 medley relay as the team of Devon Davis, Michael Barnosky, Kevin Mitchell and Jordan Dahle swam a 1:26.37. In the 400 IM, Garrett Glaudini was third with a 3:52.78. Two Falcons placed in the 200 free as Kevin Jackson was third (1:37.26) and Jordan Dahle was fourth (1:37.55)
Michael Barnosky won the 100 breast stroke with a time of 53.08, just two hundredths of a second off of his own school record.

In the 800 free relay, the team of Steffen Mount, Kevin Jackson, George Frank and Jordan Dahle was third with a time of 6:33.66.

 

Boise State

Boise State swimmers recorded more NCAA B cuts while Brittany Aoyama and Sam Wicks posted U.S. Olympic trial cuts on day two of the Art Adamson Invitational in College Station.
 
Aoyama’s time of 52.99 in the 100 fly A Final was also good for her first NCAA B cut of the season and a sixth-place overall finish. In the event’s D final, Katelyn Martin missed out on the B cut (54.49) by one-hundredth of a second, swimming a 54.50. In the morning prelims, Aoyama’s long-course time of 1:01.15 qualified as an Olympic trials cut.
 
Wicks earned B cuts in the prelims and A Final of the 100 back, touching the pad in 53.75 (converted from long course) in the morning and finishing tied for sixth overall at night with a time of 53.53, the eighth-fastest in school history. Her long-course time of 1:02.29 also went down as an Olympic trials cut.
 
In the B Final of the 100 back, freshman Ally Kleinsorgen recorded the first NCAA B Cut of her career, finishing fourth in 54.98.
 
Diver Kacee Olson qualified for her second final of the weekend, finishing eighth on 1-meter with a score of 253.75. Karli Kriewall (239.15) and Cassidy Bose (238.70) finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in prelims.
 
Emma Chard got her second B cut of the weekend under her belt, this one in the 200 free as she captured the B Final in a time of 1:46.52, the fifth-fastest time in school history. Felicity Cann finished seventh in that same B Final with a time of 1:49.61 for an overall 15th-place finish.
 
Friday night’s finals began with the 200 medley relay, in which the Bronco quartet of Wicks, Laura Williams, Aoyama and Martin finished fourth in 1:39.79, the sixth-fastest time in school history. The night’s finals session concluded with the 800 free relay, which featured Chard, Aoyama, Blake Balogh and Felicity Cann taking third with a time of 7:12.08, the second-fastest time in school history.
 
Amelia Draney qualified for the B Final in the 400 IM, finishing fifth in the race and 13th overall in the event with a time of 4:23.56.

 

TCU

The TCU swimming team concluded the second day of the Art Adamson Invitational on Friday, and the diving team wrapped up their second day at the UT Invite.

Twenty-five Horned Frogs competed in the finals on Friday.

In the men’s 100 fly, Junior Garrett Hills earned an NCAA “B” cut time of 48.22, placing fifth overall. Sophomore Matt Spallas placed 24th in the finals at 50.38.
 
Freshman Ally Robertson kicked things off for the Horned Frogs during Friday night’s finals events. Robertson earned a 10th-place finish in the 400-yard IM after clocking in at 4:19.97. Senior Catherine Rash finished at 4:27.31, placing 20th, with freshman Victoria Barczyk placing 22nd at 4:30.80.

In the men’s 400-yard IM, sophomore Carlos Hunnicutt posted a team-best 3:57.31 and earned sixth place. Junior John Remetta also placed in the finals, finishing 21st with a time of 4:02.03. Freshman Rhorer Legendre rounded out the Horned Frog effort placing 24th (4:08.12).

Freshman Catherine Maxey represented TCU in the women’s 100-yard butterfly, finishing 27th with a time of 56.26.

Freshman Tommy Thach led the Frogs in the 200-yard freestyle with a 10th-place time of 1:38.90. Freshman Leo Sanchez followed closely at 11th (1:39.09). Sophomore Owen Pink placed 14th with a time of 1:41.71. Freshman Jack McLaughlin placed 27th in the finals at 1:41.57, and sophomore Weston Miller finished 31st at 1:43.09.

In the women’s 100-yard breaststroke, sophomore Lindsay Shabet earned a team-best 1:03.67, placing 21st. Sophomore Devin Newton garnered a 25th-place time of 1:02.98, with junior Ashley Dyke and senior Michelle Garland following at 26th and 27th with times of 1:03.38 and 1:04.16, respectively.

Senior Ford Story finished 12th in the men’s 100-yard breaststroke at 55.51, just shy of an NCAA “B” cut time by less than one-twentieth of a second. Senior Cameron Rattray placed 29th at 58.18, and Hills followed at 30th (58.28).

Freshman Maddie Ibrahim represented the Frogs in the women’s 100-yard backstroke with a 26th-place time 56.48.

In the men’s 100-yard backstroke, sophomore Darian Nezami and Sanchez tied, placing 28th at 50.90. Junior Jake Powell followed with a 30th-place time of 51.27.

The women’s 800-yard freestyle relay team of Robertson, senior Mikayla Winkler, Maxey and Barczyk earned an 11th-place finish, clocking in at 7:30.17.

Closing out Friday’s finals in College Station were Hunnicutt, McLaughlin, Sanchez and Thach earning eighth place in the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay (6:42.87).

 

Nebraska

Nebraska’s divers finished up day two of competition at the Art Adamson Invite Friday afternoon. Anna Filipcic led Nebraska in the one-meter dive, earning a second-place finish.

In the one-meter dive prelims, Filipcic posted a score of 293.50 to earn her the second best score in the prelims and a spot in the finals. Nicole Schwery was not far behind Filipcic, posting a score of 267.65 securing a spot in the finals as well. Kara Cottrell also competed for Nebraska posting a score of 190.70 for the Huskers.

In the finals, Filipcic posted a score of 316.70, earning her a runner-up finish. Filipcic’s score was just 1.2 points behind the one-meter dive winner, Madison Hudkins from Texas A&M. Schwery also competed in the finals posting a score of 254.40 earning her a seventh-place finish.

Nebraska’s divers will wrap up competition at the Art Adamson Invite Saturday afternoon at noon. The final event of the weekend will be the platform dive and will feature Nicole Schwery, Francesca Giganti and Katrina Voge.
