The Miami University men’s swimming and diving is happy to announce the signing of four strong, tested seniors to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Peter Lindsay announced.
Joining the team next season are Justin Andrews (Warson Woods, Mo./St. Louis University), Chris Kearney (Deerfield, Ill./Loyola Academy), Jacob Peloquin (Lebanon, Ohio/Moeller) and Nick Wukovits (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Wando).
Andrews is a versatile swimmer and will add strength to Miami’s roster in mid-distance freestyle, IM and backstroke. At the 2014 Missouri High School state championship, he took second in both the 200 free and 500 free. Andrews clocked Winter Nationals qualifying times at the NCSA summer championship in the 200-meter IM, finishing seventh. He also earned 14th in the 200-meter freestyle and 24th in the 200-meter backstroke.
Coach Lindsay on Andrews: “He will continue the strong tradition in the backstroke events with the upcoming graduation of some of the seniors.”
Kearney is a freestyle specialist who currently swims for the Coho Swim Club in Deerfield, Ill. He boasts a 21.36 in the 50-yard freestyle and a 45.98 in the 100-yard freestyle. Kearney was a finalist at the 2015 Speedo Champions Series in Indianapolis where he finished eighth place in the 100-yard free. He also was a two-time finalist at the 2014-15 Illinois Boys state Championships where he collected a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle and a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.
Coach Lindsay on Kearney: “Chris has competed at some of the biggest meets in the Midwest with great results. He will be a vital contributor to all of the freestyle relays.”
Peloquin will bring his experience in the backstroke and butterfly to Miami. In the 100-yard backstroke, he currently swims a 50.44 and a 49.05 in the 100-yard butterfly. Peloquin is a two-time finalist at the 2014-15 Ohio State Championships. He collected a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard fly and seventh in the 100-yard backstroke.
Coach Lindsay on Peloquin: “He is very familiar with the Nixon Natatorium and he has had many of his best performances in Oxford as well as the YMCA Nationals. Jake is a very competitive relay swimmer and will contribute well to the young butterfly corps at Miami.”
Wukovits is a South Carolina record holder and the defending state champion in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard IM and 500-yard freestyle. His current best time in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.18) already is fast enough to score points in the Mid-American Conference. Wukovits is strong in the longer distance races, particularly in the 500-yard freestyle where he stands at a 4:39.36.
Coach Lindsay on Wukovits: “He has proven himself in both Short Course Yard and Long Course Meter competition and will have an immediate impact in the Individual Medley events.”
