Bentley Splits with Saint Rose

Bentley Men

Despite posting the fastest 400 yard free relay time of the year in the Northeast-10 Conference, the Bentley University men’s swimming and diving team dropped a 134-100 decision to The College of Saint Rose Sunday afternoon at the Dana Center pool.

Sophomore Christopher Vukas (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) combined with junior Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS) and a pair of seniors, Nick Toselli (Barrington, R.I./ Barrington HS) and Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS), for a winning time of 3:17.48 on the day’s final event. The previous NE-10 best this season had been 3:17.91 by Pace University.

Prior to winning the relay, Bentley had only three firsts in the meet, two of those recorded by senior Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS). He swept the diving with scores of 288.05 off the one-meter board and 264.00 from the three-meter.

Freshman Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS) had Bentley’s only individual win in a swimming event as he took the 1000 free in 10:17.22, the fourth best in the NE-10 to date. McGeary was also second in the 500 free, finishing in a season-best 4:57.70

Wilson had a pair of seconds, in the 200 free (1:48.77) and the 100 free (49.41), and senior Tim Connolly (Dorchester/Boston Latin Acad.) was the runner-up in the 200 backstroke (2:02.16).

Bentley, 1-3, will host Brandeis University on Friday at 6 pm.

Bentley Women

Junior Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) won two events and anchored the Falcons’ winning 400 free relay team as Bentley University collected a 147-94 victory over The College of Saint Rose Sunday afternoon in women’s college swimming at the Dana Center pool.

McGahie finished first in the 100 yard freestyle, with her time of 55.31 third best in the Northeast-10 Conference so far this season, and also was victorious in the 200 free (25:37.). In the latter, sophomore Jess Chen (Darien, Conn./Darien HS) followed in second place (26:34).

The 400 free relay saw McGahie follow a trio of freshmen – Kate Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS),  Melissa Viator (Lubbock, Texas/Lubbock HS) and Brooke Jameson (Bedford/Bedford HS) – into the pool. Their time of 3:47.06 was nearly seven-and-a-half seconds better than the number two team.

Kaduboski and Viator went 1-2 in the 200 back with the former’s 2:12.83 giving her the win by just one-hundredths of a second over her classmate. Those were the fourth and fifth best times in the conference to date. Kaduboski also took second in the 200 free (2:02.54).

Also posting wins for the Falcons were sophomore Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS) in the 200 individual medley (2:15.27, fourth best in the conference), senior All-America Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS) in the one-meter diving (284.60), Jameson in the 500 free (5:29.54), sophomore Courtney Stone (Andover/Andover HS) in the three-meter diving (239.45) and sophomore Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron HS) in the 200  butterfly (2:13.34, third best in the NE-10).

Stone (one-meter diving) and Niemiec (200 breast) also had second-place finishes.

Bentley, 3-1, will be back in its home pool Friday night against Brandeis.
