Franklin & Marshall Swept by Johns Hopkins

Two individual victories from Daniel Sanders were not enough as Franklin & Marshall fell to Johns Hopkins 173-84 on Friday night in men's swimming. With the loss F&M fell to 0-3 and 0-2 in the Centennial Conference (CC). 

Sanders, a freshman, continued to be a bright spot for the Diplomats, taking top points in two events on the night. In the 50-yard freestyle, Sanders finished first with a time of 21.87 while his time of 56.37 in the 100-yard IM was also good for nine points.

The 100-yard IM also saw Diplomats take second and third, with Ryan Caffrey finishing in 56.38 and Eric Lang clocking a time of 57.29.

Lang also claimed a second-place finish, turning in a time of 28.22 in the 50-yard breaststroke to finish as runner-up.

Patrick Greaney and Richard Perry each contributed third-place finishes for F&M. Greaney finished the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:32.54, while Perry took bronze in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 24.75.

The Diplomats return to action on Friday, hosting day one of the F&M Invitational at the Kunkel Aquatic Center. That event will begin at 6:30 p.m. 


Franklin & Marshall Women

Despite getting two victories from junior Becca Meyers, Franklin & Marshall was defeated 156-101 by Johns Hopkins on Friday night in non-conference women's swimming action. The loss is the first of the Diplomats' season, with their overall record now standing at 3-1 while retaining an unblemished 3-0 record in the Centennial Conference (CC).

Before the meet, President Dan Porterfield and Director of Athletics and Recreation Patricia S. W. Epps joined Meyers and her family to celebrate a fantastic summer of paralympic competition that culminated in the junior receiving the ESPY for Best Female Athlete with a Disability.

Once the swimming began, Meyers continued to stand in the spotlight. She opened her evening with a dominant performance in the 1000-yard freestyle, running away from the field to win with a time 10:34.57. Her dominance continued in the 500-yard freestyle, which she won in 5:06.80.

Also collecting a first-place finish on the night was Melissa Mullin, who took the 100-yard IM in 1:03.73. Teammate Courtney Collins followed her, taking second in 1:06.42. Mullin continued her success in the 50-yard breaststroke, claiming second with a time of 32.38.

Anna Hess and Breann Cavanagh contributed second-place finishes as well, with Hess finishing the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.67 to take runner-up honors while Cavanagh did so with a time of 2:02.56 in the 200-yard freestyle.

Mullin, Hess, Grace Pereles, Kellen McDonald, Alyson Campbell, Jillian Albus, and Erin Smith earned third-place finishes as well.

The Diplomats took first and second place in the 600-yard freestyle to close out the night in style.

F&M returns to the pool on Friday for day one of competition in the F&M Invitational. That event is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Kunkel Aquatic Center.
