Air Force Men Edge Wyoming

The Air Force men’s swimming and diving team, ranked 25th in the nation, remained undefeated on the season with a 156-144 win over long-time rival Wyoming, Thursday, Nov. 12. The swimming portion of the meet was held in Laramie while the diving was held at the Academy.

In the first event of the day, the Falcons won the 200 medley relay as the team of Devon Davis, Michael Barnosky, Steffen Mount and Lars Knutson posted  a time of 1:29.94. Wyoming won the next two events, but the Falcons came back to claim three of the top four spots in the 100 back. Davis won (49.31) while Joey Gebhart was third (51.24) and Corey Gutierrez was fourth (51.73).  Michael Barnosky then won the 100 breast stroke with a time of 54.56. Jordan Dahle won the 50 free (20.64) and 100 free (45.18).

Air Force (9-0 overall) claimed three of the top four places in the 500 free as Kevin Jackson won with a season-best time of 4:37.17. Garrett Glaudini was third (4:41.25) and Andrew Faciszewski was fourth (4:44.97). The Falcons took the top three places in the 100 fly as Davis won his second individual event of the day (49.19). Kevin Mitchell was second (49.93) and Sean Ledford was third (50.76).

In the final event of the meet, the team of Lars Knutson, Michael Hannigan, Steffen Mount and Jordan Dahle won the 400 free relay with a time of 3:02.00.
In diving, senior Nathanael Zillweger won the 1-meter (296.48) and was second on 3-meter (292.43).

“This was a tough meet today,” head coach Rob Clayton said. “We have had some great wins this season and we just got ranked, but Wyoming gave us everything we could handle. Wyoming was fabulous today. A big key for us was Devon Davis. He was great. Toward the end of the meet, going  1-2-3 in the 100 fly was huge. Another big key for us was going 1-3-4 in the 500 free. That really allowed us to surge in front and then we won the last relay. Our second and third guys didn’t really get the places that they have been getting recently. We have to regroup now and sharpen up a little before we go to Texas A&M next week.”

Air Force will compete in the Art Adamson Invitational, Nov. 19-21, in College Station, Texas.
