Hollins Sweeps Ferrum, Gallaudet

The Hollins University swim team was in action for the final time this semester when they hosted a tri-meet with Gallaudet and Ferrum on Saturday afternoon.  After sweeping a pair of meets with Guilford and Greensboro, Hollins looked to make it a perfect 4-0 start to the season.  Hollins remained perfect when they bested Gallaudet, 108-90, while defeating Ferrum, 113-64.

The 200 Medley Relay team of Maya Schattgen (Fredericksburg, VA), Claire Webber (Blauvelt, NY), Hayley Caulfeild-James (Willow Street, PA), and Debra Henke (Glen Allen, VA) got Hollins off on the right foot when they finished ahead of the field by almost eight full seconds, staking the home team to an early lead.  In the second women's event, the 1000 Freestyle, Dani Raymond (Fredericksburg, VA) added to the lead when she picked up first place points in the longest event of the afternoon.  After picking up a pair of wins, Hollins continued to build on their lead throughout the meet.

Henke added an individual first place finish when she come home ahead of the field in the 200 Indvidual Medley.  In the 100 Freestyle, Webber picked up the first of her two individual wins by recording a 56 flat, the only swimmer to best the one minute mark in the nine swimmer event.  Later in the afternoon, Webber bested teammate Lucy Manjikian (Chesapeake, VA) by almost 10 seconds in the 100 Breaststroke.  Raymond continued her dominance in the distance events when she ran her record to a perfect 4-0 after besting four other swimmers in the 500 Freestyle.

Hollins will have to wait to see if they can build on their hot start as they will not be back in the pool in competition until after the holiday break.  Hollins will travel for their first road meet of the new year when they visit Bridgewater for a tri-meet with the Washington and Lee and the home standing Eagles on January 9th.
