Arkansas-Little Rock Beats Evansville

Little Rock swimming and diving earned its first-ever Missouri Valley Conference win with a 146-135 victory over Evansville on Saturday.
 
The Trojans earned nine event wins for the day, beginning with the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Laura Ruiz Astogra, Nuria Gallego Murcia, Courtney Coe and Emma Doll came in first with a time of 1:50.97 while the squad of Courtney Goff, Shayna Underwood, Cassie Sanchez and Ann Kharlamova placed fourth.
 
Tori Fryar earned a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:36.53. Kayla Grimm placed third while Steph Lauer came in fifth.
 
In the 200-yard freestyle, Doll picked up the victory with a time of 1:59.29. Chelsea Ebert and Anela Everett placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
Ruiz Astorga took the win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.90. Underwood came in third while Goff finished fourth. After taking the 100-yard backstroke, Ruiz Astorga took her second event of the day in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.06. Fryar finished second and Goff placed fifth.
 
Coe was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly as she came in with a time of 2:11.05. Jinson Kang finished right behind her with a second-place finish. Coe then took the 100-yard butterfly with a finishing time of 58.18, tying the season-best time she recorded against Henderson State and Saint Louis earlier this year. Sanchez was the other Trojan swimmer in the event as she took a fifth-place finish.
 
Gallego Murcia finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:31.06, finishing ahead of two Evansville swimmers. Gallego Murcia also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.23.
 
Kang won the final individual event of the day with time of 2:14.33 in the 200-yard individual medley. Kang's time in the event was the fastest for a Trojan swimmer this season.
 
Imre van Huyssteen placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.87, setting a season-best time. Kharlamova finished fourth while Sanchez came in fifth.
 
In the 100-yard freestyle, Doll finished second with a time of 53.79. van Huyssteen placed fourth while Ebert finished sixth.
 
The 500-yard freestyle saw Grimm take second with a time of 5:31.11, her best time in the event this season. Everett came in fourth while Lauer placed fifth.
 
Samantha Gray finished second in the one- and three-meter diving events. Gray recorded a score of 228.75 in the one-meter dive before tallying a score of 219.00 in the three-meter dive.
 
The Trojans finished the event with a second-place in the 200-yard freestyle relay as the team of Ruiz Astorga, Coe, Fryar and Doll finished with a time of 1:40.44. The squad of Ebert, Kharlamova, Knapschaefer, and van Huyssteen placed third while the team of Goff, Sanchez, Grimm and Gallego Murcia placed fifth.
 
Little Rock will return to action in nearly a month's time as it host the Little Rock Christmas Invitational on Dec. 3-5 at the Donaghey Aquatic Center.
