USC's Vogt Named Team USA Open Water Coach for Worlds

USC assistant swimming coach Catherine Vogt was named Team USA’s open water head coach for the 2015 FINA World Championships on Friday (May 8).

This will be the third World Championships head coaching stint for Vogt, who also directed the U.S. squad in 2009 and 2013. As in 2013, she will join Trojan Head Coach Dave Salo, who is serving as the U.S. head coach for the indoor swim team.

Vogt was the women’s open water coach at last summer’s Pan Pacific Championships and has been a member of the USC staff since 2008. Former Trojan Bryce Elser is part of the U.S. Open Water staff as well, serving as Team Leader.

The 2015 FINA Wold Championships are set for Aug. 2-9 in Kazan, Russia.

In 2013 under Vogt, former Trojan Haley Anderson won the women's 5K at the World Championships and former Trojan and Vogt pupil Ous Mellouli, representing Tunisia, won the men's 5K and claimed bronze in the 10K. Under Vogt, American Eva Fabian also won bronze in the 25K.

Under Vogt in 2009, the U.S. won one silver, one bronze, posted five top 10 finishes and finished fourth in team scoring among 36 nations.
