200 Medley Relay

Heat 1 –Leads were traded back and forth throughout with Penn State (1:37.93) breaking away on the back half for the win. UNC (1:37.97) and Alabama (1:38.31) came in second and third. Penn State was disqualified for a bad exchange.

Heat 2 – Once again leads were handed back and forth but a strong anchor from Faith Johnson of Tennessee grabbed the win for the Lady Vols in 1:36.84. A game Missouri squad took second in 1:37.08 with Florida State third (1:37.38).

Heat 3 – Florida Gulf Coast (1:37.05) led from start to finish holding off the likes of Auburn (1:37.25), USC (1:37.29) and Stanford (1:37.30).

Heat 4 – A tight race between Virginia and Louisville was blown open on the fly leg by Kelsi Worrell. The Cardinals won easily in 1:35.56 followed by Cal (1:36.18) and Georgia (1:36.55).

Louisville, California, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, Florida Gulf Coast, Missouri and Texas all qualify for the big girl final.

Auburn, USC, Stanford, N.C. State, Florida State, Texas A&M, Wisconsin and UCLA qualify for the 'B' final.

 

400 IM

Heat 1 – UNC’s Hannah Runyon-Hass led early and often, finishing in a substantial season-best time of 4:11.35. Stanford’s Allison Brown and Auburn’s Ashley Nedeigh tie for second.

Heat 2 – Indiana’s Bailey Pressey led for much of the first half of this race but Georgia’s Megan Kingsley (4:10.04) took over on the back half while a solid free leg from Hannah Moore of Michigan (4:12.06) earned her the second spot.

Heat 3 – Missouri freshman Sharli Brady blew up the back half of her race to win in a big season best of 4:08.41 with Indiana’s Dorina Szekeres (4:10.74) and Sam Lisy (4:10.83) coming in behind her.

Heat 4 – Louisville’s Tanja Kylliainen (4:06.46) wins a wire-to-wire decision over Nevada’s Yawen Li (4:07.29) and Lisa Bratton of Texas A&M (4:08.39).

Heat 5 – Georgia’s Hali Flickinger and Texas’ Madisyn Cox battle back and forth all race long with Flickinger coming up with the win in 4:04.32. Cox is second in 4:05.53 with Georgia’s Emily Cameron third (4:07.32).

Heat 6 – Texas A&M’s Sarah Henry (4:02.98) used three strong strokes to earn the fastest 400 IM time in the nation beating previous national leader Brooke Zeiger of Minnesota (4:04.57) and Amber McDermott (4:05.62).

The 400 IM final tonight will have a distinct SEC flavor with A&M UGAx2 Minnesota Texas UGA Louisville Florida and Tennessee having swimmers earn top spots.

 

100 Butterfly

Louisville's Kelsi Worrell has had a terrific meet but she took it to another level in the 100 fly becoming the first women to ever go under 50 seconds. Worrell exploded over the back half to win the final heat in 49.89, eclipsing the great Natalie Coughlin's long-standing record of 50.01. The real battle will come for second tonight as Cal's Farida Osman (51.00), Denver's Sam Corea (51.01) and USC's Kendyl Stewart (51.03) were a virtual dead heat. Kentucky's Christina Bechtel (51.24), Florida's Natalie Hinds (51.46), Missouri's Dani Barbiea (51.77) and Florida State's Chelsea Britt (51.86) round out the top eight. The 'B' heat will have team standing implications with Lauren Harrington of Georgia, Jasmine Mau and Rachel Bootsma of Cal, and Janet Hu and Lindsay Engel of Stanford all taking part. LSU's Amber Carter, UNC's Hellen Moffitt and SMU's Marne Erasmus wrap up the B heat.

200 Freestyle

The stage is set for the big Missy Franklin-Simone Manuel showdown in the 200 freestyle. Franklin won the final heat in 1:41.92 with Manuel winning the prior heat in 1:41.93. Cal loaded up the big girl final, getting freshman Cierra Runge and Caroline Piehl in while Stanford added Lia Neal. USC's Chelsea Chenault, Indiana's Kennedy Goss and 500 free champ Leah Smith round out the top eight. Georgia's Jordan Mattern just missed out on the 'A' final and will have to fend off Cal's Camille Cheng who ranks one spot behind her in the B. The Golden Bears also got Rachael Acker in the 'B' final as well.

 

100 Breaststroke 

Stanford's Sarah Haase turned in the best morning swim in heat five of seven in 58.19. Molly Hannis of Tennessee won the final heat in 58.49. Virginia's Laura Simon, the runner-up to Haase, was the third qualifier in 58.69. Alabama's Kaylin Burchell won heat six in 58.72 and comes in as the fourth fastest qualifier. Gretchen Jacques of Texas took second behind Hannis and qualifies fifth in 58.86. Minnesota's Kierra Smith (59.00), Notre Dame's Emma Reaney (59.30) and SMU's Rachel Nicol (59.49) round out the top eight. Texas A&M freshman Bethany Galat (59.50) leads the list of 'B' qualifiers followed by Louisville's Andee Cottrell (59.52), Stanford's Andie Olsen (59.65), Missouri's Katharine Ross (59.72), SMU's Tara-Lynn Nicholas (59.77), UCLA's Allison Wine (59.79), Arkansas's Nikki Daniels (59.85) and Missouri's Abby Duncan (59.86).

 

100 Backstroke

Virginia's Courtney Barthololmew (50.67) earned the fastest time of the field but it's Cal who is the big winner placing three swimmers -- Rachel Bootsma, 50.96; Melanie Klaren, 51.62; Elizabeth Pelton, 51.65 -- in the top five for the second time this morning. Other qualifiers for today's big girl final are Georgia's Olivia Smoliga (51.45), Stanford's Ally Howe (51.63), Indiana's Brooklyn Snodgrass (51.63) and Florida Gulf Coast's Kira Toussaint (51.73). Those qualifying for the 'B' final are Indiana's Justine Ress (51.75), USC's Hannah Weiss (51.87), Texas' Sarah Denninghoff (51.92), Kentucky's Danielle Galyer (52.04), Georgia's Kylie Stewart (52.14), Michigan's Clara Smiddy (52.17), Missouri's Hannah Stevens (52.20), and Texas' Tasija Karosas (52.21).

 

800 Freestyle Relay

Heat 1: UCLA takes the lead early and powers on through to win easily in 7:10.13 over Arizona State (7:16.41) and Tennessee (7:19.87).

Heat 2: LSU (7:06.42) wins a wire-to-wire decision over a Kentucky(7:07.23) team that surged on the final two legs. Auburn was third in 7:09.91. Unfortunately for the purple and gold, they were disqualified due to a relay exchange on the third trade-off.

 

Three-Meter Diving

Round 1: It's a home state battle to start off today's diving competation as UNC's Michole Timm (62.00) leads N.C. State's Rachel Mumma (61.60) for the top spot. Yesterday's silver medalsit Kassidy Cook of Stanford is tied with Virginia Tech's Kaylea Arnett and Nevada's Krystal Palmer for third at 60.75. Yu Zhou of Minnesota (60) sits all by herself in sixth followed by Nebraska's Anna Filipcic and Missouri's Lauren Reedy who are tied for seventh at 58.50.

Round 2: Timm (125.00) continues to lead while Palmer (123.75) climbs a spot into second. Last night's one-meter finalist, Rebecca Hamperian of Kentucky (122.70) enters the top eight at third while Zhou (121.50) climbs from sixth to fourth. UCLA's Maria Polyakova (119.10) enters the top eight at fifth while Miami of Ohio's Pei Lin (117.30) does likewise at sixth. Arnett (117.15) and Murphy Bromberg of Texas (115.80) round out the top eight.

Round 3: Arizona's Samantha Pickens (183.70) moved from ninth to first in round 3 while Polyakova (181.10) jumped from fifth to second. Lin (180.85) and Bromberg (178.80) both also moved up spots within the top eight to sit third and fourth at the halfway point. Cook (175.20) bounces back in the top eight at fifth while Arnett (173.70) moves up a spot to sixth. Zhou (172.65) slides from fourth to seventh while Mumma (168.00) rebounds froma tough second round to get back in the top eight.

Round 4: Pickens (246.70) edges up her lead over Polyakova (242.60) while Arnett (239.70) climbs from sixth to third. Lin (239.35) slides a spot to fourth while Cook (238.20) holds at fifth. Bromberg (234.80) slides from fourth to sixth while Miami (Fla.) diver Cheyenne Cousineau (229.70) reaches the top eight for the first time at seventh. Zhou (229.65) slides from seventh to eighth.

Round 5: Polykova (313.10) takes the lead with Cook (310.20) jumping from fifth to second. Pickens (309.70) slides from first to third Lin (302.35) holds at fourth. Arnett (298.50) sldies two spots to fifth while LSU's Cassie Weil (288.50) makes her first top eight appearance. Bromberg (288.00) slides another spot to seventh while Miami of Florida's Thea Vock debuts in the top eight at 287.40.

Round 6: UCLA's Maria Polyakova (380.60) holds onto her fifth round lead to win prelims over Virginia Tech's Kaylea Arnett (370.50) and Arizona's Samantha Pickens (369.70). Stanford's Kassidy Cook (368.70) slides two spots to fourth in the final round while Miami of Ohio's Pei Lin (366.85) slides ones spot to fifth. Miami of Florida's Thea Vock (348.30) climbs two spots to sixth in the final round while Minnesota's Yu Zhou and Indiana's Jessica Parratto tie for seventh with 348.15 points.

Qualifying for diving consols are Texas' Murphy Bromberg (340.65), North Carolina's Michole Timm (337.80), LSU's Cassie Weil (336.35), USC's Haley Ishimatsu (331.30), Hawai'i's Aimee Harrison (327.40), Missouri's Lauren Reedy (326), Miami of Florida's Cheyenne Cousineau (324.20) and Nevada's Krysta Palmer (322.65).
