Westminster Sweeps Mount Union

The Westminster College men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept the University of Mount Union on Senior Recognition Day on Saturday.

The Titan men's team (10-2, 4-0 PAC) won 176-118 after winning 13 events, while the Titan women's team (9-4, 4-1 PAC) won 171-127 after winning 10 events. Westminster also won a relay in which it used exhibition swimmers.

Senior Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman) and junior Matthew Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford) won a pair of individual events and were also part of a winning relay team. Brooks won the 100 backstroke (51.58) and the 200 backstroke (1:56.20). Baurle touched first in the 100 breaststroke (58.50) and in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.41). 

Brooks and Baurle were also the first and second leg, respectively, of the winning 200 medley relay team that won with a natatorium-record time of 1:35.62. Completing the quartet were freshman Brad Kolesar (West Mifflin, PA / West Mifflin) and junior Max Hauge (Canton, OH / Glenoak).

Kolesar also won the 100 butterfly (52.53), while Hague won the 50 freestyle (22.67).

Freshman Mitch Stahara (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) and senior Nicholas Smith (Indiana, PA / Indiana) won two individual events each as Stahara won the 100 freestyle (48.44) and the 200 freestyle (1:45.64) and Smith won the 200 butterfly (1:59.10) and the 500 freestyle (4:55.81).

Freshman Nate Kern (Gibsonia, PA / Pine Richland) swept the diving events as he won the 1-meter dive with 206.17 points and the 3-meter dive with 221.70 points.

Junior Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock) and sophomore Samantha Tower (Export, PA / Franklin Regional) led the women's team as they both won two individual events and were part of a winning relay team. Reott won the 100 backstroke (1:01.99) and the 200 backstroke (2:13.39), while Tower touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.42) and in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.06).

Reott and Tower were also part of the 200 medley relay team that touched first at 1:54.56. Completing the foursome were senior Marina Rozick (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny) and first-year Megan Douds (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park).  Douds also won the 50 freestyle (25.85).
