Indiana Sweeps Evansville, Women Top Louisville

The Indiana women’s swimming team led wire-to-wire as it celebrated Senior Night at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center Friday with a 170-130 victory over the Louisville Cardinals. A split men’s squad also posted a 139-104 win over Evansville.
 
Marie Chamberlain, Claudia Di Capua, Gia Dalesandro and Ali Rockett took second in the 200 medley relay in 1:43.64, while the men’s quartet of Brandon Colonis, Jack Wallar, Kyle Johnson and Luke Lete were winners in their race vs. Evansville in 1:34.15.
 
It was a 1-2-3 Hoosier finish in the 1,000 free with Stephanie Marchuk winning in 10:00.49. Haley Lips took second (10:03.72) and Dorina Szekeres third (10:09.30). Andrej Ivanovic won for the men in 9:37.61.
 
Indiana added a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 free with Lips (1:47.59), Kennedy Goss (1:48.24) and Grace Vertigans (1:49.25). Johnson, John Winck and Ivanovic went 1-2-3 in the men’s race.
 
Brooklynn Snodgrass led a 1-2-3-4 finish for IU in the 100 back, winning in 53.44. Justine Ress was second (55.64), Chamberlain third (55.70) and Allie Day fourth (56.51). Murray Crabtree was a winner in 52.50.
 
Jonathan Panchak won the 100 breastroke in 57.38, while Sam Lisy was the top finisher for the women in 1:05.95.
 
Reagan Cook led the way in the 200 butterfly, taking second in 1:59.46. Bailey Pressey was third with a time of 2:00.34. Colonis (1:53.53) and Philip Butler (1:56.19) went 1-2 for the men.
 
Snodgrass was the first Hoosier to the wall in the 50 free in 22.31, with Vertigans third (23.47) and Rockett fourth (23.51). Luke Lete led the men in 21.25.
 
It was 1-2 for the IU divers on the 3-meter with Jessica Parratto first (342.69) and Lacey Houser second (333.00). It was the same order on the 1-meter with Parrato scoring 316.95 points and Houser 307.35.
 
Swimming started back up with the 100 free as Vertigans took second in 51.03. John Winck won for the men with a time of 47.42.
 
It went 1-2-3 Indiana in the 200 backstroke with Snodgrass (1:54.10), Goss (1:58.87) and Day (2:00.71). Crabtree made it a sweep for the men with a time of 1:53.81.
 
Lisy led Indiana in the 200 breaststroke, taking fourth in 2:22.39. Panchak led a 1-2-3-4 finish for the men with a time of 2:03.96.
 
A 1-2-3 showing in the 500 free was led by Lips in 4:52.88. Goss took second (4:54.69) and Marchuk third (4:55.34).
 
Barker (55.26) and Dalesandro (55.48) went 2-3 in the 100 butterfly, while Johnson won for the men in 50.51. Lisy took second in the 400 IM (4:19.42) and Pressey third (4:21.30). It was Panchak for the men in a time of 4:04.21.
 
Indiana put a stamp on its win over Louisville with a victory in the 400 free relay as Goss, Rockett, Vertigans and Snodgrass combined for a time of 3:21.98. Lete, Jack Wallar, Winck and Johnson took the men’s race in 3:09.27.
 
The rest of the Indiana men’s squad is in action tomorrow as the Hoosiers take on Ohio State and Louisville in Columbus, Ohio. The meet gets underway at 1 p.m. ET at the McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion.

 

The No. 12-ranked Indiana University women’s swimming and diving team edged the No. 18 University of Louisville Cardinals 170-130 Friday evening at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Indiana.
 
Cardinal senior Tanja Kylliainen posted three wins, touching first in the 200-fly, the 400-IM, and the 100-fly as well as being a part of the winning 200-medley relay team for the Cards.  Teammate Kelsi Worrell swept the sprint events with a win in both the 50-free and the 100-free and was also a part of the 200-medley relay.
 
The Cards won the 200-medley relay in the first event of the meet, posting a 1:40.08 put up by Tanja Kyllianen (25.98), Andrea Cottrell (28.27), Kelsi Worrell (22.98), and Andrea Kneppers 22.85.
 
In the 1000-free, freshman Marah Pugh is the top Cardinal with a fourth place time of 10:10.53.  Abigail Chin was fifth, going 10:18.98. 
 
Andrea Kneppers was the top Cardinal in the 200-free, touching fourth in 1:50.22 in a tightly contested race.  Rachel Grooms was sixth in 1:50.93. 
 
In the 100-back, Erica Belcher touches fifth with a time of 56.64, followed by Kristina Steins’  56.79 and Hannah Magnuson’s  57.08.
 
Cards go 1-2-3 in 100 breast, led by Andrea Cottrell’s  1:02.30. Maggie Patterson was second in 1:04.21 and Lucy Kramer completed the sweep with a 1:04.69.
 
Tanja Kylliainen smoked the field in the 200-fly with a 1:56.21, three seconds ahead of IU’s Reagan Cook’s 1:59.46.
 
Kelsi Worrell showed her heels in the 50-free with a win in 22.69, almost a second ahead of IU’s Brooklyn Snodgrass.  Rachel Grooms was fifth with a 24.07.
 
In one-meter diving, Andrea Acquista placed third with a 283.58 followed by Mady Ingmire, 265.43 and Emily Stalmack 261.98 for fourth and fifth.
 
In the 100-free, Kelsi Worrell posted a 49.07, the only one under 50 seconds for the win.  Andrea Kneppers was third in 51.45 and Rachel Grooms was fifth in 51.57.
 
Ashley LeClair finished fourth in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:01.31 with teammate Erica Belcher posting a fifth-place time of 2:02.17.
 
Cards go 1-2-3 in the 200-breast led by Andrea Cottrell’s 2:16.41. Maggie Patterson is second in 2:20.15 and Lucy Kramer is third in 2:20.34.
 
In the 500-free, Abbie Houck was the top Cardinal with a fourth place finish of 4:56.96 with Marah Pugh touching fifth in 4:58.82 just ahead of Abigail Chin’s 5:04.40. 
 
Tanja Kylliainen boarded a 53.50 in the 100-fly putting two seconds between herself and the runnerup, Olivia Barker’s 55.26. 
 
In three-meter springboard, Andrea Acquista was the top Cardinal diver with a third place score of 277.07. Emily Stalmack was fourth with a 276.00 and Alessandra Murphy was fifth with a 274.95.
 
Tanja Kylliainen snagged her third win of the night with a 4:11.05 in the 400-IM.  Abby Chin was sixth in 4:28.15 and Marah Pugh was seventh in 4:28.64.
 
In the 400-free relay, the Louisville A-relay foursome of Andrea Kneppers (51.61), Kelsi Worrell (48.48), Ashley LeClair (51.38) and Rachel Grooms (50.77)combined for a 3:22.24 and second place.
