Westminster Splits With Grove City

The Westminster College men's and women's swimming and diving teams split with Grove City College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual meet on Thursday.

The Titan women's team (8-4, 4-1 PAC) lost 156-139, while the Titan men's team won 190-97 and improved to 9-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in conference competition. The Grove City women's team improved to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the PAC, while the Grove City men's team dropped to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

The Westminster women's team had victories four events, while the men's team won 13.

Titan senior Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman) won two individual events and was also part of two winning relay teams. Brooks placed first in the 100 backstroke (51.10) and the 100 freestyle (47.33).

Brooks was also the fourth leg of the 200 medley relay team that won at 1:36.19 and the first leg of the 400 freestyle relay team that placed first at 3:15.31.

Completing the 200 medley relay team were junior Austin Karper (Carlisle, PA / Carlisle), junior Matthew Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford), and freshman Brad Kolesar (West Mifflin, PA / West Mifflin). Completing the 400 freestyle relay team were Kolesar, junior Max Hague (Canton, OH / Glenoak), and freshman Mitch Stahara (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park).

Kolesar, Stahara, and Karper also picked up individual wins. Kolesar won the 100 butterfly (52.27), Stahara won the 200 freestyle (1:46.04), and Karper won the 200 backstroke (1:59.95).

Baurle and senior Nicholas Smith (Indiana, PA / Indiana) each won a pair of individual events. Baurle won the 100 breaststroke (58.03) and the 200 breaststroke (2:09.35). Smith touched first in the 1,000 freestyle (10:04.26) and in the 200 IM (2:01.95).

Freshman Nate Kern (Gibsonia, PA / Pine Richland) was the winner of the two diving events as he won the 3-meter with 208.25 points and the 1-meter with 187.20 points.

For the women's team, junior Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock) won three events. Reott touched first in the 100 backstroke (1:00.37), the 200 backstroke (2:11.95), and the 200 IM (2:15.50).

Also earning a win for the women's team was the 400 freestyle relay team that won at 3:46.57. Completing the quartet were first-year Megan Douds (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park), senior Rebecca Mobley (Gibsonia, PA / Pine-Richland), senior Marina Rozick (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny), and sophomore Anne Tillie (Fallston, MD / Fallston).

Westminster will compete in its last dual meet before the PAC Championships on Saturday when it host the University of Mount Union at 1 p.m. for the Titans' Senior Recognition.
