Williams Tops Middlebury

The last time the Williams men finished the dual meet season without recording a loss was in 2007-2008 season. Today the squad traveled to Middlebury College to attempt the same feat. The team was coming off a meet the prior evening in Cambridge, Mass. against MIT, and had to fight off fatigue from travel and competition to come away with the win.

In the 400 Medley Relay, the top two Williams relays got to the wall before the first Middlebury relay could.

Williams started off the day with a few consecutive point sweeps. That action begun in the 200 Freestyle where Thad Ricotta, Christian Gronbeck and Nels Snyder took the top three places, respectively.

Next, in the 50 Backstroke, Williams took the top four spots. Sophomore Ben Lin led the way in 23.78, and was followed by teammates Tim Kostolansky, Alex McCarter and Zihan Su.

Breaststroke master Jake Tamposi won the 50 Breast in 26.51. Jon Yin took third place in the event with a 27.12.

Freshmen Bobby Rowledge won the 200 Butterfly. Rowledge is usually known to conserve energy for a fast finish, but today he was out quickly in the first 150 yards. He hung on for the win in the end. Junior Peter McDonald came in second place.

Bryan Cheuk of Middlebury was able to beat out Williams senior Alex Nanda in the 50 Freestyle. Sophomore Colin Hogan touched out Tim Lattimer for eighth place as well. But Williams did not give up much ground to Middlebury, as Thad Ricotta responded with a win in the 100 Freestyle.

Seniors Tim Lattimer and Christian Gronbeck dualed in the 200 Backstroke, which is an off-event for both. Gronbeck was able to come back in the last 50 yards to beat a tired Lattimer.

In the 200 Breaststroke, Jon Yin attempted a sprint at the end, but it was not enough to beat Koenigsberger of Middlebury.

Grant Johnson was able to win the 500 Freestyle, despite having erratic splits. Daniel Druckman swam hard for third place and Andrew Nemeth touched in fifth place.

Ben Lin won the 50 Butterfly and, after the diving break, came back to win the 100 IM. Lin's 100 IM time of 52.31 broke the pool record. Right on Lin's heels was freshmen Tim Kostolansky, touching in 52.85. In third and fourth places were Grant Johnson and Alex McCarter.

On the boards for Williams, Rohan Bhatt won the 1m and 3m competitions. And sophomore Andrew Lyness came in third in both, continuing to expand his range of competition.

Middlebury was able to win the last relay, but the meet was already won for Williams. With the win, Williams caps off another undefeated dual meet season. They look forward to the upcoming championship season.
