St. Andrews Swept By Life, SCAD

The St. Andrews University swimming team dropped their meets to NAIA foes SCAD-Savannah (Ga.) and Life University (Ga.) on Saturday in Savannah but came away with many first place finishes.

Winning individual races for the Knights were junior David Lambert, sophomore Ryan Frayne, and senior Triniti Counter while sophomore Georgi Krastev, sophomore Josh Dixon and Lambert and the men's relay team all finished runner-up in  a few races as well.

Lambert, a junior, won his marquee race as he finished the 50 yard free in 21.1 seconds winning by .8 seconds. He also finished 2nd in the 100 yard free in 46.6 seconds falling by .6 to Joel Ax of SCAD. Lambert also led his leg in the 200 yard medley relay in 20.89 to help the Knights finish 2nd.

Frayne then led the Knights by winning three races. He finished first in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:00.24, a minute ahead of the runner-up, and first in the 200 yard breast in 2:12.5, two seconds ahead of the runner-up from SCAD. He also won the 400 yard individual medley in 4:22 and led his leg in the 200 yard medley relay in 27.2.

Counter led the women's team with a win in the 100 yard freestyle in 55.4 seconds, just missing  her season best time while also finishing third in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.3) and 200 yard fly (2:15). Her teammate, freshman Choolwe Lourens, also had a good day with a third place finish in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:06.19 and the 50 yard free in 26.7 while sophomore Katie Keyes was also third in the 100 yard breast in 1:14.1 and second in the 200 yard breast in 2:42.

Recording second place finishes were Krastev in the 100 yard back in 51.4 and Josh Dixon in the 100 yard butterfly in 53.69. Finally, the men's 200 yard medley relay team of Lambert, Frayne, Krastev, and Dixon also came in second in 1:36, just a second and a half off the winning time from SCAD.

The Knights will now prepare for the Appalachian Conference Swimming Championships in two weeks in Christiansburg, Va. Feb. 12-14.
