The rest of the men will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Jan. 31 to race the Buckeyes and Louisville at 1 p.m. ET.

The Purdue swimming and diving teams dominated the breaststroke events and swept the 50 freestyle sprints, but came up on the short end of the team scoring on both sides of the annual rivalry dual with Indiana Saturday afternoon at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.

The women’s dual was decided by the final event, the 400 free relay. Indiana took first and third in the event to overcome the five-point lead the Boilers carried into the relay. The No. 14 IU women were victorious by a final margin of 151.5-147.5 after winning nine of the 16 events.

The ninth-ranked IU men defeated Purdue 162-138 even though both teams won eight events.

Guillermo Blanco led the way for the Boilers with three victories, touching first in the 200 backstroke, 200 butterfly and 200 individual medley. Francesca Marr swept the breaststroke events for the women and Lyam Dias did likewise for the men. The Purdue women had the top four finishers in both breaststroke races, while Dias and Marat Amaltdinov finished one-two in the men’s 100 and 200 breaststroke events.

Anji Li and Austin Flager won the 50 free sprints for the Boilermakers, but after a 20-minute break following the event, Indiana had the top three finishers in both races of the 100 free.

The divers competed from the platforms for the first time this season in dual meet action. Steele Johnson and MacKenzie Tweardy won the men’s and women’s competitions, respectively. But the Hoosiers returned the favor with a sweep on the 1-meter springboard.

Including 1-meter diving, the Indiana women won seven of the eight events after the break between the 50 and 100 free races. Not including the team points from the diving events, the Boilers led 81-50 after Li won the 50 free in lane 1. The Purdue women started the day strong by taking the meet-opening 200 medley relay followed by victories from Kaersten Meitz (1000 free) and Allie Davis (200 free) in the first two individual events of the day.

With 1-meter diving finishing up, the Purdue men briefly took their first lead of the day after Blanco and Dias won the 200 back and 200 breast, respectively, in consecutive events late in the meet. But the Hoosiers answered with victories in the 500 free and 100 fly along with 1-meter diving going in IU’s favor.

Meitz moved up to second place in program history with her winning time of 9:47.68 in the 1000 free, trailing only Caitlin Hamilton’s program- and freshman-record mark of 9:41.87 from 2010. Davis recorded a new career-best time in the 200 free (1:47.50), improving on her seventh-fastest time in program history.

Flager posted Purdue season-best times in the 50 (20.42) and 100 free (45.76). He also teamed up with Stephen Seliskar, Dias and Blanco on the victorious 200 medley relay that finished with the Boilers’ top time (1:29.66) of the season. Johnson improved on his third-best score in program history on the 1-meter while posting a team season-best score for the second meet in a row.

Manuel Gutierrez (1:40.70 in 200 free), Rhiannon Sheets (51.39 in 100 free) and Marr (1:02.64 in 100 breast) registered personal season-best times while being the top finisher for Purdue in an event.

The Boilermakers’ 17 senior student-athletes were recognized prior to the meet for the contributions to Purdue swimming and diving. Both teams are back in action next weekend in Minneapolis for the two-day Big Ten Triple Duals vs. Minnesota and Northwestern. The final home meet at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center this season will be the women’s Boiler-Make-It NCAA Last Chance meet on Saturday, Feb. 28.
