UCLA Diving Invite Recaps - Day 3

Fresno State

Fresno State divers closed their busy weekend of competition, one that saw them compete on four straight days, with a good day on the Platform at the UCLA Diving Invitational.

Junior Lacie Ruth finished 10th with a total score of 419.95. She had advanced to the finals with a 201.55, good for 12th in the preliminary round. She then scored a 218.40 in the finals to move up two spots.

Shelbie Holden finished 18th, a day after finishing 12th on the 1-Meter. The sophomore scored a 187.15.

USC’s Haley Ishimatsu won the event with a score of 604.70.

The Bulldogs' swimmers and divers will be back in action on Saturday, January 31, when they travel to the Bay Area to take on rival San Jose State in a dual meet.

Utah

Jasmine Matkovic and Amanda Casillas both placed in the top five on platform during the last day at the UCLA Invitational.

Jasmine Matkovic finished in fourth on platform with a score of 483.35. Following her in fifth was Amanda Casillas with a score of 441.00. Lauren Hall took 22nd (175.55). There were 36 divers competing in the event.

"I was really happy to see Jasmine put together two great lists on tower today. When she does that again at Pac-12s and Zones, she will be in contention for a spot at NCAA’s,” said Utah head diving coach Richard Marschner.

Jacob Crayne took eighth on platform with a score of 214.80.

“Overall, we had a great meet and it was great preparation for our end of the year meets. Amanda dived really well too and she did great to place 5th even though we watered down her list because of a nagging injury. Jake had to withdraw with one five remaining in the prelims due to an injury sustained on his 5th dive.”

The Utah swimming and diving teams will be back in action this Friday, Jan. 23 where they will host Denver. The meet is set to begin at 4 p.m. in the Ute Natatorium.
