Bryant Swept By UMass

The Bryant University men's swimming and diving team fell to Massachusetts, 170-122, on Saturday afternoon in Amherst, Mass.

The Bulldogs received a pair of first-place finishes from freshman Ben Schulte (Mermaid Beach, Australia) on the day. Schulte won 200 free with a time of 1:44.14 and also claimed the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.54. He went on to finish second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:11.23.

Bryant also received strong performances from several other swimmers. Freshman Colin Curtin (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished third in the 1650 (17:00.93), second in the 100 back (55.55) and fourth in the 200 back (2:08.27). Senior Graham Beck (Danvers, Mass.) put together a solid performance, finishing second in the 100 breast (1:01.06), third in the 200 breast (2:17.36) and third in the 500 free (5:01.17).

Junior Andrew Neggia (Ramsey, N.J.) also had a strong showing, finishing second in the 500 free (4:57.24) and third in the 200 fly (2:05.86). Freshman Benon Boyadjian (Middlebury, Conn.) finished third in the 200 back (2:03.82), third in the 100 back (56.93) and fourth in the 50 free (22.38).

The Bulldogs return home this Saturday, Jan. 24 to host Maine. Bryant will honor its senior class prior to the meet.

 

The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team fell to Massachusetts, 174-111, on Saturday afternoon in Amherst, Mass.

The Black and Gold excelled in the two backstroke events on Saturday against the Minutemen. In the 100 back, Elisabeth Schauer (Pelham, N.Y.) finished second (1:00.74) and Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.) finished third (1:01.06). Salzano then followed with a victory in the 200 back, finishing with a time of 2:07.85. Valeria Watson (Mexico City, Mexico) finished second in the event with a time of 2:09.28.

Bryant also saw Samantha Hilton (Fairfield, Conn.) put together a strong performance. She finished second in the 200 breast (2:33.77) and third in the 100 breast (1:11.98). Salzano also finished second in the 500 free (5:19.20) and Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.) was right behind, finishing third (5:30.50).

Jamie Schaefer (Durham, N.C.) finished second in the 100 fly (1:00.50) and Mackenzie Kirk (San Jose, Calif.) finished second in the 200 IM (2:15.62). Doerrman earned another third-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:17.40.

The Bulldogs return home this Saturday, Jan. 24 to host Maine. Bryant will honor its senior class prior to the meet.
