Ohio State Men Down Denison

The ninth-ranked Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team returned to competitive action vs. Denison Friday evening, earning its sixth dual-meet victory of the season. Downing the Big Red by a score of 189-111, the Buckeyes made the most of their trek to Granville, Ohio as senior diver Stephen Ettienne and freshman swimmer Brayden Seal both achieved site records.
 
In relay action, Ohio State claimed a victory. The 200 medley relay quartet of Andrew Appleby, Jack Barone, Peter Lyon and Michael DiSalle started the evening off with a first-place touch (1:33.06), while the 400 freestyle relay of Austin Appleby, Kenvin Musterait, Rowan Williams and Jack Disalle closed the meet with a second place showing (3:05.76).
 
The Buckeye divers had a solid showing, with senior Stephen Ettienne setting two site records. Ettienne captured the 1-meter with 360.08 and the 3-meter with a final score of 390.30. Freshmen standouts Stephen Romanik and Clay White followed in second- and third-place, respectively in both events. White posted a 319.05 on the 1-meter, which is a personal best.
 
In the 1000 freestyle, freshman distance specialist Brayden Seal set a pool-record time of 9:23.91 for the win. He was followed by teammate Matt Moen, who garnered second with a time of 9:49.61.
 
Rookie Jack DiSalle posted Ohio State’s top time in the 200 freestyle, finishing fourth in 1:43.88. Appleby followed it up with a win in the 100 backstroke (50.19). Senior Rowan Williams placed second (50.62), providing the Buckeyes a one-two finish.
 
The Buckeye freshmen class continued to impress, with Barone earning an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke. The Toledo, Ohio native touched the wall at 57.73 and picked up nine points for the Scarlet and Gray.
 
In the 200 butterfly, Ohio State recorded the top-three times. Junior David Morgan, who placed first in 1:51.21, led the contingent of Buckeyes. Lyon and Chris Depietro earned second and third, respectively.
 
OSU also placed first in the 50 freestyle behind the effort of Michael DiSalle (21.14). A native of Toledo, Ohio, DiSalle, went back-to-back with wins, claiming the 100 freestyle in the next race. His time of 45.51 in the event was an NCAA ‘B’ cut. 
 
Williams followed up his second-place showing in the 100 backstroke with a win in the 200 backstroke. Touching in 1:50.32, he picked up another NCAA provisional mark for the Scarlet and Gray.
 
Lyon took second in the 100 butterfly (51.67), while Jack Hendricks claimed fourth place in the 500 freestyle (4:47.36). Morgan claimed his second victory of the evening when he took first in the 200 individual medley with a 1:53.43 touch.
 
Up next, Ohio State travels to East Lansing, Mich. for a Big Ten showdown with Michigan State on Jan. 23 (4 p.m. ET). The Buckeyes then journey to Ann Arbor, Mich. the following day for a dual with rival Michigan (12 p.m. ET).
