Oberlin Splits with Allegheny

The Oberlin College women's swimming and diving team won all 14 swimming events in a 217-79 dismantling of Allegheny College on Saturday afternoon. However, the Yeomen fell to the Gators 156-110. The Oberlin women are now 5-1 in dual-meet action this season.

The meet started off on a good note as the Yeowomen 'A' and 'B' relay units took the top spots in the 200-yard medley relay. The lead foursome of Lauren Wong, Deirdre Haren, Vera Hutchison and Oriene Shiel clocked in at 1:54.48, while their teammates completed the journey in 1:57.98.
 
In the first individual event of the meet, Shiel returned to win the 1,000-yard free in 11:16.93. Teammate Caroline Lesce was second in 11:24.28. The meet rolled on with another 1-2 Yeowomen finish as Nora Cooper touched in first in the 200-yard free at 1:59.79, while Maddie Prangley was second in 2:00.51.
 
Wong kept up the winning ways for the Yeowomen, taking top honors in the 100-yard back at 1:01.29. The 100-yard breast featured an Oberlin sweep of the podium as Samma Regan touched first in 1:10.79, while Shiel (1:12.88) and Emily Stanford (1:13.98) were second and third, respectively. They later added a 1-2-3 showing in the 200-yard breast as well. Regan led the trio in 2:31.47, but this time Stanford edged Shiel 2:38.28 to 2:38.80. 
 
The Yeowomen headed into the first diving break having won each event as Hutchison's timestamp of 2:15.54 was good for a six-second win in the 200-yard fly, while Regan (25.50) and Haren  (26.17) went 1-2 in the 50-yard sprint.
 
After the 1-meter event it was more of the same as the Yeowomen started the second portion of the meet with a sweep in 100-yard free. Cooper led the trio in 55.36, while Haren (56.78) and Prangley (57.18) followed to give Oberlin 16 points in the race.
 
The 200-yard back featured yet another 1-2-3 finish as Wong tapped in at 2:13.24. Teammate Olivia Degitz was second in 2:17.15, while Kathleen Falk completed the grouping in 2:19.67.
 
Prangley and Cooper kept up the Yeowomen onslaught with a 1-2 showing in the 500-yard free with times of 5:21.02 and 5:26.27, respectively.
 
Oberlin would go on to take the top three spots in the 100-yard fly as Hutchison led the way in 1:01.30. Liora Mael was second in 1:03.16, while Allison Susin ended third with a mark of 1:06.50.

The final individual event of the meet featured another sweep, as Regan was first in the 200-yard IM, completing the course in 2:15.60. Hutchinson followed in 2:19.43, while Susin was third in 2:24.10.
 
The 16-event sweep concluded with the grouping of Cooper, Prangley, Haren and Degitz winning the 200-yard free relay in 1:44.05.
 
On the men's end Oberlin took all 16 diving points on both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Former All-American Chris McLauchlan was first in both, totaling 268.75 points on the short board and 265.05 from up high.
 
Liam Oznowich added a win in the 200-yard butterfly, besting the second-place finisher by four seconds with a time of 2:06.51. He was also second in the 1,000 at 10:39.67 and in the 100-yard fly with a time of 57.37.
 
In the closely contested 200-yard back, Chris Ayoub out-touched Patrick Hollenbeck 2:06.90 to 2:07.19 to win the event for the Yeomen. He later turned in a second-place showing in the 200-yard IM with a mark of 2:07.42.
 
Nils Gudbranson was second in both the 50 (22.82) and 100-yard (50.49) freestyle events. Teammate Aaron Frederick was third as well in the 100 at 53.28.
 
Oberlin will be back in action next Saturday when it host John Carroll University at 1 p.m.
