Miami (OH) Splits with Cincinnati

Miami University’s men’s swimming and diving teams fell in its first road meet of 2015 to the University of Cincinnati, 182-118, at the Keating Aquatic on Saturday afternoon.

The RedHawks had top finishes in multiple events. Junior Sean Neri brought home a first-place finish for the team in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.93 followed by junior Heshan Unamboowe in third and junior Jacob Prodoehl in fourth. Senior Joe Baumgartner also brought home a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 20.73. Baumgartner also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 46.25 followed by Neri in third.

The 200-yard medley relay earned first through the efforts of freshman Hutch Blackstone, freshman Peter Simcox, Neri and Baumgartner, with a final team time of 1:34.35. Sophomore Jack Strauss, Prodoehl, freshman Ross Westrick and Baumgartner made up the relay team for the 400-yard freestyle relay. They clocked a combined time of 3:07.14, earning them second.

Another top finish was turned in by junior Davis Staley, who finished second in the 200-yard backstroke with a final time of 1:53.49, followed by Neri in third.

Other point scorers for the RedHawks included senior Sam Crockett, who finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 1:00.33. Sophomore Bryan McNamara also earned third with his time of 4:45.90 in the 500-yard freestyle. Simcox had a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking a time of 52.50. Freshman Ross Rybakowicz was third in the 400-yard IM with a final time of 4:10.25.

In the 200-yard butterfly, Staley finished third, clocking a time of 1:55.86, followed by Rybakowicz in fourth and senior Michael Heavilon in fifth, respectively. Junior Christopher Dieter finished in fourth in the 200-yard freestyle. In the 1000-yard freestyle, Rybakowicz was the top finisher for the RedHawks, touching the wall at 6:50.93.

Miami returns to their home pool on Friday, Jan. 16 at noon hosting Buffalo. 

 

 

Miami University women’s swim and diving team reclaimed a winning record in dual meets after a 188-111 over the University of Cincinnati on Saturday, Jan. 10 at the Keating Aquatics Center. 
 
Strong swimming by the RedHawks resulted in nine first-place finishes to improve to 3-2 on the season.
 
Sophomore Stephanie LeMire had another big day, winning the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.62. She also swam a 2:18.74 in the 200-yard breaststroke, earning her another first-place finish. LeMire also competed in the winning 200-yard medley relay with teammates sophomore Brittany Dudzinski, junior Gabrielle Veri and senior Annie Marquiss. They clocked in at 1:46.78.
 
Freshman Shay Spelman touched the wall in 10:28.68 to earn herself first place in the 1000-yard freestyle. The 50-yard freestyle was won by Marquiss, who swam a time of 24.23. Junior Michele Rielly clocked in at 2:05.78, good enough to earn her a win in the 200-yard backstroke. Veri swam to a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly by touching the wall in 58.86. Junior Aubrey Kluth clocked in at 4:32.78 to win the 400-yard IM.
 
Miami also won the 400-yard freestyle relay with the team of sophomore Elise Campbell, junior Sara Krueger, junior Natalie Rohr and Marquiss by earning a time of 3:30.90
 
The RedHawks have less than a week to prepare to host a dual meet against Buffalo on Friday, Jan. 16 at noon in the Nixon Aquatic Center.
