The University of Delaware women’s swimming and diving team downed host Drexel 185-114 and Northeastern 189-111 in a Colonial Athletic Association dual meet Saturday, while the Blue Hen men fell to Drexel 168-132.
The performance by the UD women (8-2, 4-2 CAA) was highlighted by seven first place finishes, including two wins by Brittany Lazear. The senior finished first in the 1,000 freestyle race with a time of 10:26.56 and notched her second win of the day in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:05.22.
Two Blue Hens notched season-best performances in the winning effort. Laura Askin tallied a first place finish in the 200 butterfly with a season-best time of 2:06.75. Kristina Congdon recorded a season-best score for the Blue Hens in the 3–meter diving competition as the junior finished with a score of 300.85.
Other standout performances from the Hens included a first place finish from Dominique Montoya in the 100 freestyle race while Annie Nunes recorded a victory in the 200 individual medley competition.
On the men’s side, Cory Camp led the Blue Hens with two victories as the sophomore notched wins in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:31.69 and also placed first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:39.74.
In addition to Camp’s victories, four other Blue Hen swimmers earned victories. Everett Albert touched first in the 200 freestyle competition with a time of 1:43.39, while the time of 1:52.29 by Tim Ware was good enough to give the senior the victory in the 200 backstroke competition.
The UD men (2-5, 0-3 CAA) swept the first two spots in 1,000 freestyle, 200 freestyle, and in the 3–meter diving competition where Colin Hall tallied a first place finish with a score of 287.85 with Patrick McCann coming in second.
Both Delaware teams will return to action next weekend as the Blue Hens host their final home meet of the season when they take on CAA foe Towson at 1 p.m. at Rawstrom Natatorium.
