Celebrating senior day and the last dual meet of the 2014-15 season, the University of Utah men’s swimming and diving was defeated by the USC Trojans, 158-139, this Saturday at the Ute Natatorium. The Utes won eight events during the two day dual.

“I am really pleased. This was one of the best dual meets we have had since I have been the coach here; probably the best in terms of overall performances across the board, across the events and across a wide variety of guys. It wasn't just one or two guys stepped up and swam well, we swam very well as a team today against a really strong opponent. I think you saw a really high quality collegiate dual meet here that was strong and fast swimming, really fast swimming.”

“I am so proud of our five seniors finishing out their home meet career here. It has been a long ride for them and they have accomplished so much in the pool and classroom. They have grown into tremendous young men. I’m really proud of them.”

Bence Kiraly won the 500 free with a time of 4:28.17. He also won yesterday’s 1,650 free. Jack Burton won the 100 breast (56.13) and the 200 breast (2:01.36). Nick Soedel took first in the 100 free (43.28), while Kristian Kron took home the win in the 200 back (1:48.77). Kron also took third in the 200 free (1:41.20). David Fraser took first in the 200 fly (1:50.01). Alex Fernandes touched in first in the 100 fly with a time of 48.47 and third in the 50 free (20.68).

In the 200 medley relay, teaming up for second was Kron, Jack Burton, Alex Fernandes and Soedel with a time of 1:29.00.

Also taking second for the Utes was Nolan Rogers in the 200 IM with a time of 1:51.36 followed by Evan Indahl in fourth (1:53.44).

In the 100 back, Brandon Deckard took third with a time of 50.87.

In diving, Jacob Crayne took second on the one-meter event with a score of 337.13 and third on the three meter event (350.85).
