Utah Beats Idaho

Finishing out their regular season before heading to the Pac-12 Championships, the Utah women’s swimming team came out with a win against the Idaho State Vandals, 153-88, this Saturday at the UI Swim Center. 

The Utes won 10 out of 13 events. To start out the meet, the Utes took the first two spots in the 200 medley relay. Taking first was team of Megan Kawaguchi, Stina Colleou, Melissa Paakh and Maddie Jamora touching in at 1:45.82 with team of Shayla Archer, Jenna Marsh, Jenna Girffith and Dorien Butter following in second (1:46.53).

Kat Wickham touched in second in the 500 free with a time of 5:08.53 with Hailey Pabst in third (5:09.95) and Maryssa McArthur in fourth (5:09.96). 

In the 50 back, it went one-two-three. Archer took the top spot with a time of 26.68 with Erika Nist (27.38) and Jenna Griffith following (27.47).

Colleou took second in a close race in the 50 breast. She touched in 29.60. Idaho’s Laura Griffin took first with a time of 29.53. Colleou also took home a win in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.31.

Claiming the top two spots in the 100 fly was Paahk with a time of 55.99 and Soininen in second (56.75), while Giuliana Gigliotti took first in the 100 free (51.77). Paahk also took first in the 50 fly with a time of 25.57.

Kawaguchi touched in first in the 100 back with a time of 58.52, while Maddie Mesiel would later take first in the 200 free (1:53.83). 

Rounding out Utah’s victories was Kylie Boyce in the 200 IM who took top honors with a time of 2:09.36 with Selin Ozturk taking fourth in the event (2:13.29). 

The Ute women look forward to the Pac-12 Championships which will be taking place in Federal Way, Wash. Feb. 25-28. 

The #25 Ute men’s squad, according to the latest poll from CSCAA released on Feb. 5, will host USC next Friday-Saturday, Feb. 20-21 in the Ute Natatorium. The men’s Pac-12 Championships are set to begin March 3-7.
