Ohio State Sweeps Wright State

Capturing its 11th dual meet win of the season, the ninth-ranked Ohio State men’s swimming and diving team defeated Wright State by a score of 138-78 Saturday afternoon at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio. The meet rounded out the Buckeyes’ dual meet campaign with an 11-1 overall record. For the day, the Buckeyes earned wins in six races, as well as two events contested in the diving well.
 
The afternoon kicked off with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay by the contingent of Steven Zimmerman, DJ Macdonald, Matt McHugh and Josh Fleagle (1:29.21). Jack Hendricks followed in suit with a touch in 1:41.38 to claim the top spot in the 200 freestyle.
 
Fleagle earned his first individual victory of the day in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.27. Before a brief break in competition, Ching Lim captured a win in the 400 individual medley at 3:52.58.
 
Senior veterans Stephen Ettienne and Shane Miszkiel earned first and second-place points in the 1- and 3-meter diving events. Ettienne earned the top score on the 1-meter apparatus with 392.33 points, while Miszkiel posted a 397.65 total in the 3-meter for first.
 
Freshman Kevin Musterait added points for the Buckeyes, recording a first-place touch (44.88) in the 100 freestyle. McHugh had another solid showing to attain his first individual win of the meet in the 100 backstroke (49.45). Jovan Mitrovic then outlasted competition in the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:36.10. 
 
The Buckeyes host the Ohio State Winter Invite Feb. 14-15 at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The meet will serve as a precursor for the 2015 Big Ten Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, which is scheduled for Feb. 25-28 in Iowa City, Iowa.


The 23rd-ranked Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team captured a 147-65 win over Wright State Saturday afternoon at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio. The victory, which sealed the Buckeyes’ dual meet record at 11-1 for the season, was earned on Senior Day, as Ohio State celebrated the accomplishments four veterans – Lauren Davis, Taylor Ford, Aliena Schmidtke and Ashley Vance prior to the meet.
 
In all Ohio State capture victories in nine events. The 200 medley relay started off the afternoon with a first-place finish by Zhesi Li, Ashley Vance, Annelise Sprau and Annie Jongekrijg in a time of 1:42.21.
 
The 200 freestyle was swept by Ohio State with Lindsey Clary capturing first (1:51.33), followed by Li and Zulal Zeren in second and third respectively. Freshman Cheyenne Meek also earned valuable points for the Buckeyes, as she posted a winning time in the 50 freestyle (23.28).
 
Zara Bailey attained an individual victory in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:21.46, followed by Amanda McNulty in second at 4:35.76.
 
After a brief break in competition, Vance had a strong showing in the 100 butterfly, swimming to the top finish in 55.75. Jongekrijg then claimed the 100 freestyle in a time of 51.34.
 
In diving action, freshman Brittany Menninger totaled 306.83 points on the 1-meter springboard for first place. She was followed by veteran Taylor Ford in second with a 288.38 point total. In 3-meter event, Ford earned the top score of 335.55, with Menninger claiming the runner-up spot with 331.50 points.
 
Amanda Petro registered a first-place performance in the 100 backstroke (56.99). Katie Antal followed in successful fashion by earning the top spot in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.03).
 
Bailey, Annie Gillig, Katy Luchansky and Amy Bopp rounded out the meet with a second-place showing in the 200 freestyle relay event (1:39.08).
