The Nova Southeastern University men's and women's swimming teams completed their first day as hosts of the Sixth Annual Shark Invitational. The first day's events included the men's and women's 200-yard individual medley, the men's and women's 50-yard freestyle, the men's and women's 200-yard medley relay, the men's and women's 100-yard freestyle and the men's and women's 800-meter long-course freestyle.
Highlighting the day was Marco Aldabe, who swam a personal record time of 1:48.57 in the men's 200-IM.
The first final of the day took place in the morning session, as Andrew Pittman and Georgina Allin swam times of 9:06.58 and 9:33.39 in the men's and women's 800-meter long-course freestyle.
The first two events of the afternoon session were the men's and women's 1000-freestyle. Blake Woodrow cruised to victory on the men's side, swimming a time of 9:36.48. Malin Westman followed with a win on the women's side, swimming a time of 10:28.15.
In the third event of the afternoon session, Courtney DeVeny was the highest finisher for the Sharks in the women's 200-IM, swimming a time of 2:07.13. Malin Westman trailed her with a time of 2:07.44 to take third place. After Aldabe's record breaking swim, Sydney Panzarino, Emma Wahlstrom and Jordan Shows swam times of 23.85, 24.16 and 24.30 in the women's 50-free, respectively. They were followed by Thiago Sickert and Anton Lobanov, who swam 20.66 and 20.79 in the in the men's 50-free to take second and third place.
The last two events of the day were the men's and women's 200-medley relay. On the women's side, DeVeny, Westman, Shows and Wahlstrom swam a 1:45.75 to take first place. The women's A-team was followed by Aldabe, Lobanov, Victor Tarin and Sickert who swam a time of 1:29.88.
The Shark Invitational will resume tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. for the prelims of Day 2.
