Yale Lures Smith From UVA

The Yale women's swimming and diving and team will welcome a new assistant coach to the Bulldogs' coaching staff this season.  Kerry Smith will be assisting Robert J.H. Kiphuth Head Coach of Women's Swimming, Jim Henry, and Diving Coach Chris Bergere in leading the Bulldogs to a successful Ivy League campaign.

Smith was the former assistant coach at the University of Virginia, where she worked primarily with mid-distance swimmers and helped lead the team to an ACC Championship and a fifth-place finish at the Division I NCAA Championships.  Prior to Virginia, Smith also coached the sprint and mid-distance swimmers at Wingate University, and the distance swimmers at Truman State University.  Her background in coaching swimmers with a variety of training needs will make her a valuable member of the Bulldogs' coaching staff.

As a swimmer, Smith competed for The Pennsylvania State University.  The team won the Big Ten Championships twice during her time at Penn State, once in 2002 and again in 2005, when Smith was senior captain of the team.

"We are all excited about having Kerry Smith join our team. Her leadership, championship level experience, and passion for coaching will be a great addition to our program," said Robert J.H. Kiphuth Head Coach of Women's Swimming, Jim Henry.

The previous assistant coach, Dani Korman, has accepted a job as the Mary Frances Wagley, '47 Head Coach of the MIT men's and women's swimming and diving teams.
