McNew Named Volunteer Diving Coach at Denver

Former Pioneer diver Seth McNew (2007-2011) has been hired as the new volunteer assistant diving coach for the University of Denver men’s and women’s diving team, head diving coach Channing Kimball announced today.

“I am very happy to have Seth join me as the volunteer assistant coach,” Kimball said. “It is an honor to get to work with a young, aspiring coach who competed at DU. I expect Seth to be very helpful to me during times when I need another pair of eyes to watch the divers. It will be a great compliment to our team and coaching staff to have Seth working with us.”

McNew dove at DU for four years during his undergrad career, while studying international business and Chinese.  He was named Conference Champion during his senior year and was awarded the Sunbelt Conference Diver of the Year (2011). Following undergrad, he also completed his MBA here at Denver.

After graduating in 2012, McNew spent a few years performing as a professional acrobat and stuntman in different places around the world, including the United States, Europe, and Asia. He most recently worked at Universal Studio Singapore.

The Lakewood, Colo. native has since moved back to the Centennial State, where he is working as the Director of Public Relations for the Colorado Symphony, as well as coaching youth gymnastics here at DU.

“His experience in gymnastic and diving shows in Southeast Asia is unique and will allow him to bring a new perspective to the team,” Kimball added.

McNew is looking forward to the opportunity to join the DU diving coaching staff, and help the program continue to build on its recent success.

"Coming back to DU as a coach is an incredibly exciting opportunity,” he said.  “With Channing's excellent coaching and my recent experiences working with high caliber divers and acrobats from around the world, our divers will continue to be an important part of DU's swimming and diving team as we increase our status as a national powerhouse."

The DU swimming and diving squad will open up the 2015-16 season with the Denver Relays at noon on Oct. 10 at El Pomar natatorium.
