Indiana's Goss Makes Canadian World Team

Indiana University freshman swimmer Kennedy Goss is one of 24 athletes named to Canada’s 2015 FINA World Championships team. The event takes place July 24-August 9 in Kazan, Russia.

Goss was selected after finishing third in the 200-meter freestyle (1:59.01) at the 2015 Canadian Swimming Trials last week in Toronto. That is a new IU record in the event and will most likely put Goss on Canada’s 4x200 freestyle relay.

Goss also went 1:02.04 in the 100-meter backstroke, good for seventh in prelims but elected not to swim the championship final. She was 25th in the 100-meter freestyle prelims in 57.31, and finished sixth in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:16.05.

Goss becomes the third person with Hoosiers ties to earn a spot at the World Championships. Indiana All-American Cody Miller (2011-14) made the Team USA squad in the 100-meter breaststroke as last summer’s trials. Sophomore diver Michael Hixon will represent the United States on the 1-meter springboard at the World Championships, as he and fellow IU divers still have an opportunity to qualify in more events.

The USA Diving synchro World Championship trials will take place April 9-12 in Greensboro, North Carolina, while the remainder of the spots will be determined at the World Championship trials, May 15-17 in Bloomington at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. Admission to the World Championship trials in Bloomington is free and open to the public.

In addition, senior Justine Ress, who wrapped her IU career at the NCAA Championships three weeks ago, was selected to represent France at the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju City, South Korea. Ress finished third in the 100-meter backstroke (1:01.49), fourth in the 50-meter backstroke (28.97) and third in the 200-meter backstroke (2:13.17) at the French National Championships last week.
