Denver's Corea Wins Canadian 50 Fly Title

University of Denver swimmer Samantha Corea (Vancouver, British Columbia) continued her strong performances of late by capturing her first national title for Canada in the 50-meter butterfly. Her splendid time of 26.29 set an event record and earn her FINA A cut for the World Championships.

“Sam is having an amazing senior year and this is just part of it,” said Denver head coach Brian Schrader. “Excited to see how the rest of her events go.”

“I’m so excited, all my hard work has finally paid off and now I’m just happy,” Corea told the Toronto Observer. “I started club swimming when I was 10, so this is a big deal for me.”

There isn’t much time for Corea to relax and celebrate. She will race again Friday in the 100-meter butterfly.

All this coming following her excellent showing at the NCAA Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina a couple of weeks ago. In those championships, Corea finished second in the 100 butterfly, setting a school and Summit League mark in the process. She also finished third in the 200 backstroke.
