Oberlin Sweeps Hiram

In their first home meet of the season the Oberlin College swimming and diving teams cruised to victory over the visiting Hiram College Terriers.  The women were 144-71 winners, while the Yeomen prevailed 133-84.
 
The night started with the Yeowomen winning the 200-yard medley relay by nearly five seconds. The foursome of Olivia Degitz, Samma Regan, Vera Hutchison and Deirdre Haren clocked in at 1:54.79. Haren later returned to win the 50-yard free in 25.62, while Degitz added a win in the 100-yard free with a mark of 56.99. The individual wins for the relay team continued as Regan took the 100-yard back in 1:02.73.
 
The Oberlin women went on to win all 13 events on the night to complete the sweep.  In the longest race of the evening, Caroline Lesce won the 1,000-yard free in 11:41.62.
 
The Yeowomen claimed the top three spots in the 200-yard free, which included a first-place tie between Liora Mael and Kathleen Falk as they each checked in at 2:07.20.
 
In the 400-yard IM teammates Oriene Shiel and Hutchison were pushing each other for first place as the rookie Shiel out-touched the upperclassmen 4:53.65 to 4:53.82.
 
In diving action Adrian Ziaggi took first place in the 1-meter with 183.68 points and later added a victory off the 3-meter board with 166.80 points.
 
Following the first diving break, Allison Susin registered a win in the 100-yard butterfly, stopping the clock at 1:05.06. First-year Hannah Pieper added another nine points for the Yeowomen by completing the 500-yard free with a winning time of 5:39.07.
 
Like the Yeowomen, the Yeomen also dominated the meet. The grouping of Chris Ayoub, Jack Redell, Liam Oznowich and Nils Gudbranson got things going by winning the 200-yard medley relay in 1:44.93. Ayoub would later return to take the 200-yard free in 1:51.88 and 100-yard back in 59.91, while Gudbranson was victorious in the 50-yard sprint as he clocked in at 22.05. Gubranson added his third win of the night in the 100-yard free, touching the wall in 51.42.
 
Oznowich was also active as the evening wore on, securing victory by 32 seconds in the 400-yard IM with a mark of 4:38.21. He would later take the top spot in the 100-yard fly with a timestamp of 57.21.
 
Senior diver Chris McLauchlan's talents were on display as he won the 1-meter and 3-meter events by over 100 points. On the short board he totaled 286.95 points and from up high he scored 279.68 points.
 
Jeremy Cooper had an easy run through the 1,000-yard free, earning victory by 31 seconds with a mark of 10:43.01. Cooper would later swim half the distance in 5:14.79 to claim his second victory of the night in the 500.
 
Oberlin has a short turnaround as it goes right back to work tomorrow afternoon at the College of Wooster.
