Texas A&M Men Clip Florida Atlantic

The Aggie men's swimming and diving team added another mark to the win column with a 121-95 victory over the Florida Atlantic Owls.

The Aggies are now 2-1 for the season. The men were paced by a standout freshman class as freshman Gonzalo Carazo Barbero crushed the competition with a 1:52.34 victory in the 200 IM and a 4:32.53 victory in the 500 free. In the 100 fly, junior Jacob Wallace and freshman Brock Bonetti battled for the top position with Wallace taking first by .05 seconds with a 51.50. Freshman Duncan Mulleady had his first victory with the team in the 100 back with a 51.27 - taking the victory by two seconds.

"It was good seeing our team committing to the race in a new, outdoor setting," says head coach, Jay Holmes. "We used this meet as a chance to put some guys in different situations that might come up later in the season." Senior, Hayden Duplechain was one of these swimming the 500 and 1000 free. Duplechain took first in the 1000 free with a time of 9:41.51.

Holmes said it has been really good to see sophomore Jacob Gonzales race week after week. "Although he's not real sharp now, he will be soon." Gonzales took first in the 50 free with a 20.67.

On the boards, freshman Tyler Henschel dominated the 3-meter springboard event with a score of 403.12. Henschel and sophomore teammate Zachary Stockton went 1-2 for the second consecutive meet this season.

The team will stay in Florida and train on Friday in Fort Pierce. The men look to increase their winning record when they take on Indian River State College, the 2014 NJCAA National Champions, on Saturday.
