In the Panthers’ second meet of the young 2014 season, Florida Tech men’s swimming recorded their first team victory, defeating Savannah College of Art and Design Saturday by a margin of 106-99.
The Panther women were not as fortunate, falling to the Bees, 112-90.
The FIT men dominated the freestyle races. Ferruccio Rossi was the fastest man in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing in 9:54.31. Nir Barnea won a race for the second meet in a row, claiming the 50-yard freestyle after touching in 21.02. Thomas Steenberg also won for the second time in as many meets, taking the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.38. The title in the 500-yard freestyle went to Takashi Worrell, who recorded a time of 4:45.83. Finally, FIT’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Barnea, Steenberg, Jonah Rieman and Victor Westerlund garnered a win, making the final touch in 1:25.06.
On the women’s side, the Panther 400-yard relay team of Lauren Suarez, Samantha Conger, Dar Raz and Liana Soileau got the meet started with a win, registering a time of 4:05.92. Raz would also record a victory in the 100-yard fly, finishing in 59.47, the only sub-one minute time of the race. Conger would also garner an individual win, finishing the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.82. Shelby Pierce claimed the 200-yard individual medley, touching in 2:13.98.
FIT swimming will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 7 as the Panthers open the home portion of their schedule, taking on Florida Atlantic. The FIT home-opener is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. ET.
