Led by Elise Lankiewicz the Davidson women earned a convincing 210-90 win over College of Charleston, but the Charleston men claimed the final four events, despite multi-win days for Luke Burton and Clay Resweber, to rally past the Wildcats in swimming and diving action Saturday afternoon in Cannon Pool.
The Davidson women were dominant, claiming 13 out of 16 events with four podium sweeps and four 1-2 finishes. The Davidson men held a nine-point lead (115-104) through 12 events, but the Cougars won the final four to ultimately claim 10 of the 16.
Elise Lankiewicz went undefeated, claiming three individual event wins in the 200- (1:53.90), 100- (52.60) and 500-yard freestyle, and aiding the 400 freestyle relay team to a convincing win in 3:32.80. Meredith Nakano also won a pair of butterfly races, claiming the 200 in 2:07.77, and the 100 in 57.92, and contributed to both relay efforts, including the meet opening victory in the 400 medley.
Kate Moreton and Katy Williams also competed on the 400 medley team and earned individual wins in the 100 backstroke and the 200 breaststroke, respectively. Following Williams in second in the 200 breaststroke was Sarah Coats, who led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 200 individual medley and placed third behind second-place Williams in the 100 breast. Moreton placed second in another podium sweep, as Malachowski was victorious and Angie Healy third in the 200 backstroke.
Elizabeth Weldon led the ‘Cats’ first podium sweep of the day in the 1000 freestyle, as Kate Carter, Anna Blair Bullock and Leah Hubert followed in order. Weldon and Bullock completed a sweep of the 500 free later in the meet, trailing only Lankiewicz.
Kassie Shannon won the 50 freestyle and was second to Lankiewicz in the 100 free, and concluded the meet as part of the victorious 400-free relay effort that also included Healy.
Karen Monuszko was less than a point shy of sweeping the diving events as she won the 1-meter with 253.50, but tallied 255.67 points to Megan Norton’s 256.50 (0.83 difference) in the 3-meter.
On the men’s side, Burton contributed to a meet-opening victory in the 400-yard medley relay, and claimed the 100 and 200 backstrokes. Resweber led a scoring sweep in the 500 freestyle, trailed by Cole Riggan and Benjamin Stewart-Bates, in order, and the 1000 freestyle, with Max Schimanski following in second place.
Cameron Bard was also an individual event winner for Davidson, claiming the 100 freestyle in addition to the relay victory and team-best performances in the 50 free (second) and 100 butterfly (third).
The Wildcats will take next weekend off before hosting its second consecutive home meet Friday, Nov. 7 at 5:30 p.m. vs. Queens.
