Bryant Sweeps Providence

Freshman Ben Schulte (Mermaid Beach, Australia) won three events to lead the Bryant University men's swimming and diving team to a victory over Providence on Friday night.

The Bulldogs downed the Friars, 176-104, to earn their first dual meet victory of the season.

A week after opening his collegiate career with a dominating effort, Schulte won three events against the Friars. He won the 400 free (4:13.40), 200 IM (2:07.88) and the 200 free (1:55.66).

Men's Top Performers

Graham Beck (Danvers, Mass.) won the 100 breast (1:06.77) and the 200 breast (2:31.38).

Brendan Miller-Radest (Chatham, N.J.) won the 200 fly (2:16.24) and was third in the 800 free (9:10.82).

Zachary Hannon (Marlborough, Conn.) won the 50 free with a time of 24.31.

Adam Gauthier (Middletown, Conn.) won the 1 meter dive with a point total of 227.00.

Joshua Bjornberg (Wallingford, Conn.) won the 100 fly with a time of 59.53 and finished second in the 100 free with a time of 54.97.

Colin Curtin (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished second in both the 800 free (8:55.38) and 100 back (1:02.23).

 

The Bryant University women's swimming and diving got a pair of first-place finishes from Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.) on its way to a 174-106 victory over Providence on Friday night.

The Bulldogs earned their first victory of the season on Friday behind an all-around team effort.

Messina swam to victories in the 200 breast with a time of 2:46.57 and the 100 breast with a time of 1:15.03. Bryant also received first-place finishes from Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.), Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.), Dana Yu (Bridgewater, Mass.), Mara Valenzuela (Bridgewater, Mass.), Samantha Torrez (Whittier, Calif.) and Mackenzie Kirk (San Jose, Calif.).

Top Performers

Salzano won the 100 back with a time of 1:05.84. She finished second in the 200 back (2:21.31) and the 200 IM (2:30.11).

Doerrman won the 200 fly with a time of 2:27.00. She also finished third in the 800 free (9:41.99).

Yu won the 50 free with a time of 27.58. She finished second in the 100 fly (1:07.57) and third in the 100 free (1:01.74).

Valenzuela won the 100 free (59.84), finished second in the 50 free (27.6) and third in the 200 free (2:11.04).

Torrez won the 100 fly with a time of 1:06.97.

Kirk won the 200 IM with a time of 2:28.19 and third in both the 50 free (27.81) and 200 back (2:25.30).
