Regis Sweeps Husson

The Regis College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams took both halves of a dual meet against Husson University on Saturday afternoon in Weston, Mass. The Pride women defeated the Eagles, 140-96, while the men were victorious, 125-44.

“After just three weeks of practice overall, we swam pretty well,” said head coach James Sweeney. We focused better on the little things and racing better which has improved over the past few weeks. It was great to see our newcomers contribute greatly in their individual events and relays. Having swimmers in some different events gave some others an opportunity to swim there better events.”

For the women, the 200 yard medley relay team of Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.), Haley Bowen (Litchfield, N.H.), Amanda Iandoli (Mansfield, Mass.) and Shannan O’Neil (Lowell, Mass.) won their event with a time of 2:02.68. Iandoli followed that up with a win in the 1,000 yard freestyle (13:31.47) and 100 yard butterfly (1:12.81), while Higgins and Ashlyn Deroche (North Reading, Mass.) posted the top two times in the 200 yard freestyle at 2:09.56 and 2:14.04.

Higgins continued her strong debut with a win in the 50 yard backstroke (32.38) and 100 yard backstroke (1:07.41), while Deroche added a win in the 100 yard freestyle (1:01.11). Haley Bowen picked up first place finishes in the 50 yard breaststroke (34.00) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:15.04), while Ana Kudsi (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) and Laura Holland (Mansfield, Mass.) had the top two times in the 500 yard freestyle at 7:00.07 and 7:01.29.

Husson’s Sarah Klopp (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) posted a win in the 50 yard freestyle at 27.34, just edging the Pride’s Shannan O’Neil at 27.59. Kayleigh Richardson (Kensington, N.H.) and Marissa Charette (Winslow, Maine) had the top two times in the 50 yard butterfly at 34.28 and 37.85. Erin Brenner (Morrow, Ohio) took home the top time in the 200 IM with a time of 2:43.77.

The 200 yard freestyle team of Klopp, Amber Britton (Manchester, N.H.), Katrina Aman (Lakeville, Mass.), and Richardson won with a time of 1:58.76.

On the men’s side, the 200 yard medley relay team of Cassidy Bastinelli (Newton, Mass.), A.J. Graf (Newton, Mass.), Nicholas Rainville (Reading, Mass.) and Robert Ekberg (Northbridge, Mass.) swam to a top time of 1:47.96. Michael Bruno (Winthrop, Mass.) added wins in the 1,000 yard freestyle (11:36.75) and 500 yard freestyle (5:44.19).

Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.) began his sophomore campaign with wins in the 200 yard freestyle (2:03.34) and 50 yard backstroke (26.03). A.J. Graf had wins in the 50 yard breaststroke (29.81), 50 yard freestyle (22.76), and 100 yard freestyle (50.83). Rookie Nicholas Rainville won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.93, with Bastinelli winning the 100 yard backstroke at 1:02.37.

Husson’s Grant Gerber (Portland, Maine) won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.04. The 200 yard freestyle relay foursome of Lou DeLima (Hampden, Maine), James Nealey (Northport, Maine), Nathan Whewell (Colchester, Conn.) and Gerber added a win with a time of 1:40.81.

Regis returns to the pool next Saturday when they host the University of New England in a meet starting at 1:00 p.m. Husson will host St. Joseph’s College of Maine on Saturday, November 1, at 12:00 p.m.
