Oakland Sweeps Wisconsin-Green Bay

Patricia Aschan, Nikki Flynn, Tricia Grant, Takara Martin, Cassie Misiewicz and Jacob Pearson were all two-time individual winners for Oakland Saturday afternoon as the Golden Grizzlies finished the Wisconsin sweep with dual victories against Horizon League foe Green Bay.

The Golden Grizzlies' women defeated the Phoenix 180-116 thanks to 13 wins out of 16 events, while Oakland's men's team tallied a 169-127 victory over Green Bay, aided by one relay and 10 individual wins.

"This was another strong performance for us on the road," Oakland head coach Pete Hovland said. "Based on where we are in our training, the staff and I are pretty pleased.This is a week or two earlier than normal for us and we really haven't focused on the sprint phase of our program yet and it showed somewhat. We are, however, starting to round into shape and we were finishing our races extremely well."

Oakland's women's team started with a win in the 400 medley relay, as Kyra Rietveld, Rachel Waite, Lauren Wynalda and Holly Morrenfinished in 3:57.30. Misiewicz followed with the first of her wins, touching first in the 1000 free in 10:37.99. She also captured the 200 IM, winning in 2:11.13.

Aschan was victorious in the 200 fly (2:09.41) and 500 free (5:12.16). Martin touched first in the 100 breast (1:05.94) and 100 fly (59.18), while Flynn won the 100 free (53.10) and 200 free (1:55.56). Grant was tops in diving, capturing both the 3-meter (317.10) and 1-meter (315.98) events.

Oakland also got individual wins from Waite (200 breast, 2:26.00) and Rietveld (100 back, 59.49).

For the men, Pearson led a balanced effort by the Golden Grizzlies by winning the 200 free (1:44.26) and 500 free (4:45.37). Also winning individually were Seth Timmons (1000 free, 9:53.37), John Ferrara (100 back, 52.97), Jorden Merrilees (200 fly, 1:54.47), Stirling Fordham (1-meter, 272.18), Tuomas Kiviluoma (100 free, 48.34), Aleksander Danielewski (200 back, 1:50.44), John Schihl (200 breast, 2:10.22) and Mario Rusnak (100 fly, 51.20). 

The Golden Grizzlies also were winners in the 400 medley relay, with Merrilees, Ayrton Kasemets, Mitch Alters and Kiviluoma winning in 3:28.67.

Oakland returns to competition Saturday, Oct. 25 for a double dual meet at Northwestern, which will include Horizon League challenger UIC.
