Terrier Invite - Day 3

Fourteen Stags qualified to compete in the finals of their events as the Fairfield University men’s swimming & diving team wrapped up the final day of the Terrier Invitational at Boston University’s Competition Pool.

In the C-Final of the 200y backstroke event, Collin Hayes (Northport, N.Y.) clocked a 2:02.57, to finish sixth in the final and 22nd overall while Kyle Lally (New Milford, N.J.) posted a 2:08.38 to finish eighth in the final and 24th overall.

In the B-Final of the 200y breaststroke, Connor Daly (Reading, Mass.) posted a 2:11.98 to finish sixth in the final and 14th overall. In the C-final of the event, Kevin Kett (Middlebury, Conn.) recorded a 2:22.44 to place 24th and finish eighth in the final.

In the B-Final of the 1650y freestyle, Andrew Robinson (Warwick, R.I.) clocked a 16:32.70 to finish 11th overall and place third in the final. Jameson Duncan (Stamford, Conn.) posted a 17:19.84 to finish seventh in the final and 15th overall. Junior Nick Cannone (Suffield, Conn.) was the last to finish in the B-Final, clocking a 17:27.33, to take the 16th slot. In the C-Final, Pat Orkins (Wethersfield, Conn.) recorded a 17:48.49 to finish 17th overall and first in the final.

Sophomore Daniel Pires (Chelmsford, Mass.) qualified for both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for the men. In the 1-meter event, Pires posted a 228.50 to finish seventh overall. On the 3-meter board, he recorded a 256.40 to place third. Senior Evan Barr (Malvern, Pa.) had a final 3-meter score of 230.85 to finish fifth overall.

In the 400y freestyle relay, the team of Scott McGinty (Reading, Mass.), Andrew Tavcar (Queens Village, N.Y.), Jay Cook (Lynnfield, Mass.), and Hayes recorded a time of 3:14.95 to finish 13th overall while the team of Robinson, Duncan, Kett, and Robert Hansen (Millbury, Mass.) followed in 14th place with a time of 3:27.22.

Fairfield (2-3; 0-21 MAAC) has now concluded their 2014 campaign. The Stags will make a splash in the winter of 2015 after returning from their training trip in Hawaii.

Sunday’s Preliminaries

Men’s 200y Back: Rookie Collin Hayes qualified for the C-Final with a time of 2:04.49 and placed 24th overall. Kyle Lally clocked in next with a 2:10.54 to finish 26th overall and qualify for the C-Final.

Men’s 100y Free: Sophomore Scott McGinty finished 30th overall, with a 48.42. Jay Cook clocked in next with a 48.93 while Andrew Tavcar followed with a 49.54. Collin Hayes posted a 52.15 while Robert Hansen recorded a time of 54.04.

Men’s 200y Breast: Junior Connor Daly clocked a 2:10.94 to finish in 13th overall and qualify for the B-Final. Kevin Kett followed in 24th place with a time of 2:23.59, to qualify for the event’s C-Final.

Men’s 200y Fly: Freshman Kyle Lally posted a 2:12.78 to finish in 30th overall.

Men’s 1650y Free: Junior Andrew Robinson finished 11th overall, with a 16:32.70, to qualify for the B-Final in the event. Jameson Duncan and Nick Cannone followed in 15th and 16th respectively, with times of 17:19.84 and 17:27.33, to also qualify for the B-Final. In the C-Final, was Pat Orkins who clocked in at 17:48.49 to finish in 17th place.

Men’s 1-Meter Diving: Sophomore Daniel Pires was the top finisher for Fairfield. Pires placed sixth overall with a score of 219.60, to qualify for the final round. Senior Evan Barr posted a 215.65 to finish ninth overall while Will Sullivan was close behind in 10th place with a 205.10. Rounding out the Stags’ effort was rookie Benjamin Martin who finished in the 16th slot with a score of 115.50.

Men’s 3-Meter Diving: Sophomore Daniel Pires was the top finisher once again for Fairfield. Pires placed sixth overall with a score of 236.45, to qualify for the final round. Senior Evan Barr was close behind with a 210.10 to finish eighth overall and also qualify for the finals. Will Sullivan posted a 171.50, to place 11th, while rookie Benjamin Martin finished in the 15th slot with a score of 121.60.

In the B-Final of the 200y backstroke event, Sierra Weiner (Centerport, N.Y.) clocked a 2:07.23 to finish ninth overall and place first in the final. Also in the B-Final was Kelly Mulligan (Bellerose, N.Y.), who posted a 2:09.24 to finish third in the final and 11th overall. In the 200y back C-Final, Brianna Thompson (Basking Ridge, N.J.) recorded a 2:13.58 to finish 18th overall and second in the final. Katherine Kraus (Glendale, N.Y.) clocked a 2:16.77 to finish sixth in the final while Kate Ansani (Bannockburn, Ill.) posted a 2:25.60 to finish seventh.

In the C-Final of the 100y freestyle event, Liz Avery (Hampden, Mass.) clocked a 54.35, to finish third in the final and 19th overall.

In the C-Final of the 200y breaststroke, Meghan Guinee (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) posted a 2:31.95 to finish eighth in the final and 24th overall.

In the C-Final of the 200y butterfly event, Danielle Latino (Valhalla, N.Y.) recorded a 2:19.94 to finish 22nd overall and sixth in the final.

In the B-Final of the 1650y freestyle, Meredith LaBerge (Newtown, Pa.) clocked a 17:35.30 to finish 10th overall and place second in the final. Also in the B-Final was Alyssa Acompora (West Islip, N.Y.), who posted an 18:04.29 to finish seventh in the final and 15th overall. In the C-Final, Ansani recorded an 18:47.38 to finish 18th overall and second in the final. Rounding out the Stags’ effort was Latino who clocked an 18:55.39 to finish third in the final.

Senior Ashlee Steinberger (Haddonfield, N.J.) qualified for both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for the women. In the 1-meter event, Steinberger posted a 224.10 to finish fifth overall. On the 3-meter board, she recorded a 211.20 to place sixth.

In the 400y freestyle relay, the team of Mulligan, Avery, Meghan Weiser (Yardley, Pa.), and Michelle Pleban (Seymour, Conn.) recorded a time of 3:38.73 to finish 11th overall while the team of Acompora, LaBerge, Ashley Boyle (Cranberry, N.J.), and Thompson followed in 14th place with a time of 3:45.86.

Fairfield (3-2; 1-1 MAAC) has now concluded their 2014 campaign. The Stags will make a splash in the winter of 2015 after returning from their training trip in Hawaii.

Women’s 200y Back: Rookie Sierra Weiner and junior Kelly Mulligan both qualified for the B-Final with times of 2:10.16 and 2:10.69 to place 10th and 12th overall. Brianna Thompson clocked in next with a time 2:14.30 to finish 17th overall and qualify for the C-Final. Joining her in the C-Final are Katherine Kraus and Kate Ansani who recorded times of 2:18.56 and 2:25.36 to place 22nd and 23rd overall.

Women’s 100y Free: Liz Avery clocked a 54.59 to finish 23rd overall and qualify for the C-Final in the event. Meghan Weiser and Michelle Pleban followed with times of 55.85 while Ashley Boyle clocked a 57.93.

Women’s 200y Breast: Meghan Guinee clocked a 2:34.04 to finish in 23rd overall and qualify for the C-Final. Callie Vacchiano followed in 27th place with a time of 2:37.58.

Women’s 200y Fly: Junior Danielle Latino posted a 2:22.07 to qualify for the C-Final and finish 24th overall.

Women’s 1650y Free: Senior Meredith LaBerge finished 10th overall, with a 17:35.30, to qualify for the B-Final in the event. Alyssa Acompora followed in 15th place, with a time of 18:04.29, to also qualify for the B-Final. In the C-Final was Kate Ansani who clocked in at 18:47.38 to finish in 18th place and Danielle Latino who recorded an 18:55.39 to place 19th.

Women’s 1-Meter Diving:  Senior Ashlee Steinberger posted a 208.70 to place fifth overall and qualify for the final round. Sophomore Caroline Gailius followed in 14th place with a 151.65. Classmate Leah Pawelczyk was close behind Gailius in the 15th slot with a score of 143.90.

Women’s 3-Meter Diving: Senior Ashlee Steinberger posted a 214.95 to place fourth overall and qualify for the final round. Leah Pawelczyk followed in 12th place with a 160.95 while Caroline Gailius was close behind in the 13th slot with a score of 150.10.
