Washington College Women Down Bryn Mawr

The Washington College women's swimming team picked up its first Centennial Conference win of the season this afternoon, defeating visiting Bryn Mawr, 134-58, in a dual meet inside Casey Swim Center. The Shorewomen improved to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference meets with the win, while the Owls fell to 1-4 and 0-4 with the loss.

Washington turned in the top two fastest times in all nine of the individual events and finished first in both relay events. With a 134-30 lead heading into the final two events - 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle relay - the Shorewomen entered those events as non-scoring exhibitions only. 

Senior Alicia Howard (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington), sophomore Ellen Maxwell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven), and freshman Katie Gorman (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) each won two individual events. Howard took the 200 freestyle in 2:05.10 and the 500 freestyle in 5:37.16. Maxwell won the 400 individual medley in a Washington College season-best 4:53.46 and the 100 backstroke in 1:03.52. Gorman finished first in the 50 freestyle in a WC season-best 25.73 and in the 100 butterfly in a WC season-best 1:04.09. 

Freshman Joelle Williamson (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) won the 100 freestyle in 56.95 and was second in the 200 freestyle in 2:06.26. JuniorJulianna Fritzinger (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion Area) won the 1000 freestyle in 11:42.68, while freshman Jennifer Clune (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) placed first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.58 and was second in the 50 freestyle in 26.07. 

Senior Ashley Maurizi (Reamstown, Pa./Cocalico) finished second in both the 1000 freestyle in 11:53.04 and the 100 freestyle in 1:00.32. SophomoreJackie Creitz (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) added a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 1:07.45, freshman Emelie Farrington (Neptune, N.J./Monmouth County Academy) was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:49.45, freshman Allie Grillo (Mt. Airy, Md./The Learning Community) was second in the 400 individual medley in 5:07.36, freshman Tricia Liller (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) touched the wall second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.37, and sophomore Megan Obarowski (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) took second in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.44.

Howard, Liller, Gorman, and Clune opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay in 1:58.85. Maxwell, freshman Ali Sanders (Dover, Del./Milford), Maurizi, and Williamson closed the meet by posting the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay, finishing in 1:46.42.

The Shorewomen return to action December 5th and 6th at the Randolph-Macon Invitational.
