Swarthmore Invite Recaps - Day 2

The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up the second and final day of the Swarthmore Invitational at Swarthmore College with the men placing second with a total of 827.5 points and the women finishing in the second spot, tallying 725 points.

Men

Junior Will Gough continued his success from Friday, placing first in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 48.91 seconds. Gough also helped his team, along with sophomore Okan Eyigor, freshman Stephen Arcidiacono, and junior Jake Blazer, recording a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:41.23.

Gough, Blazer, Eyigor and sophomore Scott Schirmer would also swim for second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay, recording a time of 3:21.26.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Blazer also notched third place in 1:54.53, while Schirmer finished right behind him to earn a time of 1:55.51 for fourth.

Sophomore Kevin Mejia and senior Daniel Keller took second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard butterfly, with Mejia recording a time of 2:08.09 and Keller touching the wall right after him in 2:08.70.

Women

Just like Gough, sophomore Victoria Radcliffe captured a first-place finish for the second day in a row, notching a win in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:51.06. In the same event, sophomore Layne Gable touched the wall at 5:04.18 for third place. Gable also collected a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly to finish in a time of 2:19.29.

The team of Radcliffe, freshman Bizu Baldinazzo and sophomores Nicole Marders and Maggie Deering earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay to start the day, recording a time of 2:00.28.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Radcliffe contributed to a second-place finish, along with juniors Kathryn Adams and Nicki Schult and freshman Bailey Wilson, to record a time of 8:36.26. Radcliffe capped off her day in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing third in a time of 56.20.

Wilson also notched a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:47.07.

Marders helped her team, along with Schult, Baldinazzo and sophomore Claudia Guay, earning second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:55.44.

Baldinazzo took third in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in a time of 1:05.88, while Adams placed in third for a time of 2:23.82 in the 200-yard backstroke.

The Sea Gulls will wait until after the new year to return to the pool on Saturday, January 10, 2015 when they travel to compete against the University of Mary Washington. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
